Been watching Captain N recently. There are a LOT of questionable designs in that show, even factoring in a lack of decent art for reference material (like I can sort of forgive Kid Icarus's Medusa). But THIS is what they did for Dragon Quest slimes.

seems like there are some that get to that level in the pic but that is mostly when they cheap out and don't put an effort to match the animation quality thruout the seasons

I don't know if you remember the 90s but anime was extremely censored and cartoons couldn't say kill, die, show guns, etc. It was extremely sanitized back then. They also did stuff like removing trans characters from Final Fight, not releasing any game that had religious connotations (or removing them if possible), adding seatbelts into Sailor Moon (not to mention removing LGBT characters) etc. Things changed rapidly in the mid-90s to 2000s, but before that it was super sanitized.

and about biblical references, Sodom (who is actually named after the thrash metal band anyway) was renamed to Katana in the SNES port of Final Fight...and was still called Katana in the SNES port of Street Fighter Alpha 2, several years later.

HZD and this cartoon are from completely different eras with completely different values. The reason something is done matters. Look up why people wanted games banned and people like Jack Thompson. This was an entirely different era of media. The backlash against D&D was similar. These content decisions were driven by appeasing conservative Christians. It had nothing to do with woke.
