I beat Mass Effect today, and I want to get more into WRPGs. What are your favorite WRPGs?

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodline was pretty good.

For more accessible systems and story focused: disco elysium, baldur's gate 3, kingdom come deliverance 1 and 2. Fallout new vegas too.

For more gameplay focus, solasta: crown of the magister, pathfinder: kingmaker and wrath of the righteous (i think pathfiner systems are more for intermediate players with decent grasps on tabletop rpg system), and warhammer rogue trader

If you want something different and indie, try underrail, drova: forsaken kin or dread delusion, age of decadence, colony ship.

For classics, i recommend baldur's gate 1 and 2, neverwinter nights 2, fallout 1 and 2 etc

I recommend playing at least witcher 2 too. It's such a well written story, albeit slightly janky.

Imo witcher 1 is good too, but my guess is it would be too unwieldy to play.

All the Witcher games are good imo

1's gameplay is meh now but the storytelling is amazing. I especially like how subtle and rippling your decisions are, compared to 2 where you could literally see the forks in the road and in 3 where you could save scum your way out of crappy outcomes.

But they're all fun

Not a WRPG necessarily but check out Secret World Legends if you like modern day settings with occult and paranormal themes. It's an online only game but 100% free to play, based on a really well developed buy-to-play game and it has outstanding missions and a beautiful, unique world to experience (seriously you fight everything from junkyard golems to wendigo to skeletons of Roman legionnaires and Oni spirits).

Annual Samhain event starting up again soon if it hasn't already too. Unfortunately they didn't bring back the Urban Legends mission but the radio signals mission is friggin DOPE (you explore the world and collect real world horror radio shows from the 30s-50s)

I found it easier to play 1 than 2. 1 was definitely outdated but because of how far outdated it was, it felt acceptably different. 2 just felt bad. Though I did play 1 on PC and 2 on Xbox so maybe that had something to do with it. I should give 2 another shot sometime... And then I can finally get around to playing 3.
