I can't remember the title of the movie, but there was a film that I saw on VHS when I was a kid that had paintings coming to life. All I remember was there was an old baron who lived in a castle full of paintings. He had one done of himself that he liked, and fell in love with a girl in a different painting. But the girl in the painting was in love with a boy in another painting, and every night he would swing over to her painting to be with her. Old baron painting comes to life and yells at boy stealing the girl, so the boy and girl run away. They're helped by some giant robot to escape the castle.

Those really were awesome books.

Anyhoo I will say.. the Brown Bunny.

There was a weird director named Vincent Gallo I believe, he made another movie with himself and Christina Ricci. I used to really like her, the dark hair and eyes with pale skin drive me crazy. It was called Buffalo 66 and had some small success.

He made Brown Bunny and after Roger Egbert saw it , he described it as one of the worst movies he had ever seen in his life. So I watched it and yes, it totally sucked. It was so long ago but it set off a feud between Vince and Roger. Vince called Roger something like a fat moron. And Egbert replied.. "that may be true. But when I am in Heaven, I will be beautiful. And you will still be the director of the Brown Bunny."

The Golden Compass

Saw it in theatres and hated it.

Project X

Seen in twice... can't believe the video rental store recommended it to a couple of pre-teens.

My list...

Weirdsville - Canadian film festival movie with Scott Speedman, Wes Bentley and Taryn Manning. Some of my favourite movie quotes.

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra - actually there's a few Larry Blamire films that would also qualify (Trail of the Screaming Forehead, The Lost Skeleton Returns Again). Hilarious movies, but pretty obscure.

The American Astronaut.

When I was in my 20s my gf at the time had passes to the annual movie festival in our smallish town in Florida. We'd go to nearly every movie. Saw all kinds of weird shit, and at the end of most of the movies the director would come out and answer some questions from the audience. There was some documentary about Amish kids on rumspringa...some comedy movie about two dumb brothers who rob banks and go to jail...American Saint which was pretty meh...and the American Astronaut which I still probably think about at least once a day.

I thought it was a great adaptation of the book. I remember there was a few changes that I didn't care for. Can't remember exactly what they were as its been probably at least 15 years since I've seen the movie and even longer since I read the short. But all in all I was very happy with the film.

I saw it because of Connery. It sucked. And yeah, people are 100% justified in finding that a bizarre idea. In fact, Connery took on the role specifically because it wasn't his usual thing. The story goes that, after turning down a role in The Matrix because he thought it was dumb and nonsensical, and seeing that blow up to absurd levels, he decided maybe dumb nonsense was just what people liked and accepted the Extraordinary Gentlemen role since that was similarly dumb and nonsensical to him. When that flopped, he quit acting altogether, deciding he just didn't understand cinema anymore.
