Didn't know this was happening, I remember a lot of disappointment around the game when it first came out, I wonder if this release will fix a lot of the issues people had.

I dont know wtf Playtonic has been doing all this time. Their last game was Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, which was excellent btw, 6 years ago

and they return with just a polished up version of their first game? Hope they have something else cooking because who asked for this?

Looks good. I enjoyed the original quite a bit, it was just a little rough around the edges. An enhanced version could hopefully turn it into a great game, if they've listened to the feedback.

I never played the original version before and I do have a craving to play a 3D platformer. I'll look into this.

edit: ok I commented before actually watching the video but it does look pretty good.

I backed the original and enjoyed it enough, but it was definitely pretty mid. Ill check out this remake for sure when I have the time, seeing the amount of feedback they took into account is great.

tl;dr the changes they made make the game feel like a Frankenstein combination of old and new ideas which both make the game easier and remove a lot of the charm of the original. Reviewer feels like all this effort would have been better spent on a new game

I lot of that review appears to be mostly the reviewer just not liking Yooka-Laylee in general, and saying it playing better doesn't change that it's still the same game. It basically sounds like if you like the game, it's almost objectively better, and if you don't, you still won't.

I think its more nuanced than that.

the reviewer mentions a couple changes that unintentionally make certain aspects worse. For example, you get all abilities right away without needing to unlock them, and certain mini games were done away with. This means that several NPCs that had funny dialog are no longer important, so you get less chance to interact with them through the game and a lot of dialog has been removed

another example is that they tried to ape Odysseys collectibles everywhere approach to Pagies by doubling the amount in each world, which just results in 25 extra pagies artlessly strewn around the worlds that werent designed for them, while the original pagies require more old-school platforming challenges

anyway it all begs the question why not spend all this effort on an actual sequel after 6 years of no game release?

Pages always seemed like a very lame collectible. They got nothing on Jiggies. Jiggies were golden and shiny and they spin in place as a proper collectible should!

apparently you have all your moves from the start that kills my interest in this version

as i like getting new moves slowly allows you to familiarize your self with them

I've been going back and forth on if I should get this. I think I'll just replay the original instead.

As a huge fan of BK and BT, I've always been interested in this game. I never played the original, but these changes you guys mention don't sound good. Glad to see it has some good reviews though and I may check it out eventually.

this is me i actually have the original just never got around to playing it i was getting ready to when this version got announced

but the move thing is a deal breaker for me

I get why they did what they did with the moves. One of the biggest complaints with the original game was how tedious it is that you learn new abilities at such a slow pace. It was based on matching N64 era collect-a-thons, but that's one of those things from that era that hasn't aged well. Being able to go to an area, but being blocked because you haven't learned an ability through arbitrary means was frustrating then, and especially frustrating later on. There was literally no reason for it other than to gate stuff off to give a sense of "progression," but it was artificial progression.

What made it especially frustrating was the way it actually played. It wasn't like a Metroid/Castlevania game, where it was like "Oh, I can see this exit/path/etc., but I can't reach it yet," it ended up being more... Okay, you can actually go into this area, and you can run around and......... Oh, completely arbitrary wall that feels incredibly forced.

I do want to note for those who are wondering why Playtonic isn't just making the sequel, I'm almost certain they are. They've been kinda teasing and hinting here and there during this remake's marketing cycle that they are working on something else as well.

I remember the original game just feeling cheap. Controls felt just a little off, graphics felt plasticy and Unreal, too much dialogue for a game of this type, physics being a bit Unreal,

It has potential to be good, so hopefully this remake fixes it. Im all for game redemptions, like Shadow Generations.

Btw, Impossible Lair is great, dont miss that one, as it goes on sale for incredibly cheap

It is almost 10 years old, surprisingly.

FF7 Remake ps3 video was shown 8 years after it came out. Maverick Hunter X was nearly 10 years after X1 too.
