As I said in the other topic, I'm on the central planning committee for the No Kings event in my county. I am a volunteer coordinator. We are aiming to have this protest be the biggest protest my county has ever seen. The first No Kings, which the chapter of 50501 that I am a part of was the lead organizers on, was the second biggest protest, just barely behind only the 2017 Women's March. We think this time that we are going to blow out of the water.

I've seen great protest signs that say stuff like "Things are so bad, even the introverts are protesting!" I vibed with that so much, because I am definitely an introvert, but becoming part of this resistance has forced me to become extroverted. It's really not so bad. There are tons of people in the same boat who are coming out nonetheless.

You don't have to register. We use Mobilize for people to RVSP but it's not required, it just helps the organizers get a sense of attendance numbers. But we factor in the fact that a lot of people don't RVSP but come anyway. Typically we take the Mobilize number and times it by 3-4 to get an estimate of total attendance.

Hmm. That's not how we do it. We post where it is on the Mobilize page, and on our socials, and in our mailing list. If the organizers in your area are gating the event location behind registering then they are severely handicapping their potential turnout.

I dont think being introvert is necessarily the same as having social anxiety. The latter comes with irrational fears that can be almost paralyzing and some people will get panic attacks. It's hard to just will yourself to "get over it" no matter how much you wish you could.

Very true. Coming out to protests is not for everyone, and I apologize if my comment came off as inconsiderate to anyone. I will just say however that I do also have mild social anxiety, and I have put myself so far outside of my comfort zone several times as part of this resistance, doing things I never thought I'd be doing. Public speaking, going to school board meetings and board of supervisors meetings and issuing public comment, hell, teaching chants up on stage on a microphone to a crowd of about 6000 people. It's crazy stuff. It's terrifying every time, but I'm glad I am making myself do it.

  • I don't have transportation.
  • I'm skeptical of the true nature of these protests, seems like a convenient way for the government to track and monitor opposition.
  • To add to the last point, as someone previous stated, having to register is a massive massive red flag. If these things are legit the organizers should deeply consider going full anonymous.

You dont have to register to show up at a No Kings event. Its not like theres somebody checking everyones phones to make sure they signed up, you just go downtown and join the crowd.

I think this fear is a bit overstated. Also...Fuck this administration and if they want to spend the resources to come round me up for signing up for a protest, I'll be waiting. Peaceful civil disobedience is partly based on forcing that type of conflict
