Been thinking of taking a last-minute trip with my wife at the end of November to celebrate our anniversary. We were thinking Japan because that's where we went for our honeymoon, but ticket prices are a bit expensive (last-minute trip and all). Anyone been somewhere they recommend and also have some ideas of what to do in the area?

I mean, if youre still looking for places in Asia, Vietnam is fantastic, and dirt cheap once youve got the airfare out of the way. At that time of year, Phu Quoc or Sapa would be my choices.

On topic, I haven't traveled outside of the US apart from Ontario once, but some places I would like to go would be Japan obv, Phillipines and Iceland. Would probably go to typical tourist cities, too.

How are prices on Iceland? Is it worth going in November?

Gonna be honest, I've never given Vietnam a ton of thought, but might not mind visiting one day. Although I know next to nothing about the country and culture outside of food. Any specific reason for these locations that time of year?

Vietnam is awesome. Very glad I moved here.

Phu Quoc usually has great weather that time of year and Sapa is actually nicer in the colder months. Lots of resorts in the mountains where you get all the creature comforts of staying in a nice hotel while getting your own cabin on the mountainside, above the clouds. Its nice.

I was thinking Vietnam might be fun. I had heard it's pretty cheap too. What kind of things did you do out there?

Hmm. A little of both would be ideal, but I'm leaning more towards a relaxed vacation rather than overscheduling too many things to do, so probably more-so country then.

This is where my wife really wants to go. I had suggested it too. The sights look amazing.

Well, I live and work in Vietnam, so my experience may be different to yours. But what there is to do varies according to where you are. Generally a lot of it involves exploring the local area (stunning scenery or interesting cities), eating the food, and a whole lot of lounging about on a beach, mountainside or next to a rooftop pool marvelling at how little everything has cost you. But there are more specific things to do in certain places.

Genuinely, Vietnam is awesome, so if youve ever considered going and havent done it yet, take the plunge. Ive known very few people who regret it, and a great many who end up returning or staying longer than they originally intended.
