I don't have it in me to do a detailed breakdown of each movie. I will say 1 is the only truly decent movie out of all of them but I was surprised that some of them weren't just complete shit, even if they were all repetitive and convoluted. Most of them still had some fun and neat things here and there that made them worth a watch. The bleakness of them is also just hilarious after a bit, in a "Sideshow Bob stepping on rakes" kind of way. The thing I hated most about them was how hand-holdsy the flashbacks were.

In terms of horror franchises running too long and declining in quality, it doesn't seem any more egregious than any other. I was really expecting something way worse based on where I had left the franchise (the third one) and the way people shit on it. These lows are indeed low but honestly, I'm not sure they're any lower than the lows of all the other big horror hitters. I'd re-watch 9, 6, or 10 before I'd re-watch like 75% of the movies in the Halloween franchise, for example. Of course, none of these could dream of being half as good as the original Halloween, but still.

Overall, I don't regret watching them but I'm not recommending them.

VI and X being that low are insane takes.

I can accept Jigsaw, the nuanced, sympathetic monster as the backdrop for other characters' stories but a whole movie of playing him straight(er) against an unambiguously evil person right out of The Villain Factory is a non-starter for me. Terribly uninteresting premise that brought down the whole thing.

As for VI, I'll take the criticism on that placement because it really wasn't any better or worse than a lot of the others I placed higher. It just didn't resonate with me AT ALL for whatever reason and is the only one I struggled to get through aside from X.

the ones with hoffman are the worst as he is boring villain and he acts more like a slasher movie villain than a jigsaw villain (thoe the one with a health care CEO is great for those parts as i it ironically was the one time a victim actually DID improve from jigsaws warped views)
