This is a myth that many immigrants find out not to be true.

A good start

At least most of you can actually speak it! :-)

For such a developed country like my country (Switzerland), a lot of people here have surprisingly poor English skills, lol.

I include myself in that, too. I can understand most of what people write here and I manage to put together somewhat decent sentences (though I do rely on translators sometimes), but honestly, my English is still pretty mid. But it's still better than that of 70-80% of the population here lol

You missed the 1994 Street Fighter movie?
It was Raul Julia's last role, and he said "Fuck you, I don't care how cheesy this movie is. I'm dying and this is my last movie, so I'm going to give it everything I got!".
His M. Bison is the best part of the movie, and pretty much the reason to watch it.

He absolutely was incredible in the movie. It's worth watching for his immaculate performance alone. He only took the role because of his kids and that's why he put his all into it.

I also hail from a 90% hispanic city where a lot of people have extremely heavy accents from different spanish areas

I think it's the Netherlands where it's pretty common to find good English speakers all around.

It is usually the case only in big cities that cater to tourists. Any city not built for it are usually no gos when it comes to English tourists. Atleast, that was what it was like in Japan

But joey from Vinesauce speaks good english.

I remember in the mid 90s I was in the U.S. Navy and was in Lisbon Portugal and was going to a concert there and we were standing outside and I said to my friend I wonder what will be open after the concert for a good place to eat? I wish we could run into someone who speaks English.

The group of local guys turned and said in perfect English We all speak English. I was like You do? He then told me it was a part of required classes in school there. I admit I was stunned. I was pretty young and grew up in isolated Midwest United States in the middle of farmland. I didnt realize stuff like that yet.

In my travels there were a lot of places that had many good English speakers, especially in the port towns the Navy visited a lot. Like in Naples Italy tons of English but hop a train and go inland a few hours very little English. It was helpful for sure but even in places where they didnt it was surprising how well you can communicate using your hands, pointing, facial expressions, and some friendliness and patience.
