LAKE MILLS, Wis. -- The Lake Mills Police Department released a statement declaring no threat to the public Monday after residents found racially-charged flyers in their yards over the weekend.

"We must secure the existence of our people and the future for white children," read one.

The papers, stuffed in Ziploc bags and weighed down with bird seed, were, according to police, 'widely distributed' across the Wisconsin city of just more than 6,600 residents.

"I saw in a number of driveways what looked like a white piece of paper," said an anonymous Lake Mills resident who told News 3 she was walking her dog early Sunday morning when she noticed the flyers.

"This one says, 'Tired of being discriminated... because you're white. Join the Aryan Freedom Network.'" she said, reading off one of the papers.

According to its own website, the Aryan Freedom Network is a white nationalism organization committed to the "interests, ideas, security and cultural values of the white race." The site presents images of swastikas and Confederate flags.

"I was sad, to be honest with you," the woman said, "because this is a lovely town, and typically people think of it as a caring community. So to see this, I thought, 'We're in a new phase.'"

She said later Saturday morning, she spoke to a neighbor who found seven of the papers on his street.

"So I finally decided I would call the Lake Mills Police."

The Lake Mills Police Chief declined News 3 Now's requests for an interview, but provided a statement:

"The fliers are printed copies of leaflets that can be found on the white-power.org website. They appear to have been widely distributed on lawns/driveways in Lake Mills. Residents may dispose of them if found on their property. There is no evidence that any particular residence was targeted based on characteristics of the occupants, and the fliers themselves contain stock messages from the website. Research has revealed that this is a common practice of members of the Aryan Freedom Network. Distributing leaflets at shopping centers or other areas that people gather is also a common activity. We have no information that indicates there is a threat related to the leaflets that were found. There is no further investigation at this time."

Some residents, however, argue that the messages in the bags are threats within themselves.

"Any time you see this in this day and age," our anonymous source said, "I think it needs to be taken seriously."

The flyers appeared just after Lake Mills, like many cities across the country, hosted a No Kings rally on Saturday.

I live less than 20 miles away from this community.

I hope I don't see any Nazis in my town spreading this vile shit.

I have family in northern Wisconsin, at least up in that part of the state this stuff isnt rare. Reminds me of the Packers fan who wrote the team complaining about them not drafting enough white players.

weird, the same kind of thing happened where i live 2 years ago, by a white supremacist group who calls themselves the "California Blackshirts".

literally same method, flyers stuffed in ziploc bags weighed down with stuff and thrown into driveways. Newsom signed a bill into law last year to outlaw this kind of dissemination of hateful messaging, arguing that it falls under illegal intimidation which people have a legal right to be free of.

Nazis in general are a threat to the public. Nazis bold enough to drop propaganda in public are actively threatening anyone who doesn't agree with them. To claim they're no threat is nave at best and covering for them at worst.
