They sent out some pre-subscription offers. If enough people show interest, they'll do it for the neighborhood.
I'm hoping the houses around me sign up. It'd be cheaper than the Internet I get now, for double the speed (1000gbs)

Essentially they already plan on building a fiber backbone for electricity data/communication reasons and they'll have enough bandwidth to offer Internet service using the same backbone or something

My power company did this about 5 or so years ago. I was thrilled and I'm glad they went through with it cause we basically had the choice between satellite or this weird radio internet

Never heard of it being done before but it seems like it makes sense, especially for more rural areas. If the hardware is there already

For whatever reason, my Steam downloads are pitiful. I forget exactly how slow now, since I haven't gotten anything new in forever, but compared to every download from anywhere else, it's on the order of a tenth as fast.

It's not that my region is wrong, because it isn't. Unless there's some nuance to it that I don't understand.

Make sure you don't have it capped in your settings. There's an option for it under Downloads.

You are also limited by your hard drive's write speed, but that shouldn't be an issue unless you're still on an HDD.

I am, but as I mentioned, it's not an issue for downloads from elsewhere.
