That whole finale was very frantic. I really dont think I could have beaten that if I were like 7 or 8 years old. >_>

It was weird because every other boss was a total push over lol

Probably my favorite 3D collectathon ever. And yeah that final boss was nuts. Absolutely walled me at first.

Masterpiece. Absolutely loved it, as a long time DK fan it delivered on all fronts. And yeah, that finale was wild. Easily one of the best finales in a Nintendo game ever, even outside the fan service it was just so well executed.

I tried going back to play Mario Odyssey a bit (at the time of its release a personal 10/10) and man, it was amazing just how much more I liked DK Bananza.

Ill even go to bat for the DLC because I love roguelike modes (even if it was a bit spendy) and I got quite a few hours out of it.

For me its between DK and Hades II for personal GotY.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. Also, normally I don't really go this angle in terms of DLC, but considering the release timing, I think the DLC really should've just been in the game from the start rather than charging $20 for it.

Started to feel tedious to play through maybe 3/4s of the way, finale stuff was great though. Overall pretty good.

I really liked it. Probably my 3rd favorite game this year.

I didn't like it as much as Astro Bot, or NEAR as much as Odyssey. But it's still one of the best 3D platformers of the last couple of decades.

I find it interesting how people disliked when Ganondorf just shows up at the end of Twilight Princess, (even tho he really doesnt).

But when K.Rool literally just shows up at the end of Bananza, everyone is just happy to see him! He was absent the whooole game!

K Rool being gone from DK for like 20 years probably has something to with it

Ganondorf hijacking Zelda games had already been done at that point.

K. Rool hadn't been around for like two decades. Very different situations.

One of the best ending sequences of recent times.

Ill be honest. I liked Void Kong more.

Thought it was alright. Fun in short bursts. Definitely overrated.

I thought it was great, but the level themes felt way too generic until the second half of the game. Would have liked more creativity and more interesting spins on the standard Mario level themes

also the DLC was a ripoff, should have been like $5 if not included in the base game

The was a lull about halfway through the game, then they give you a few more powers and it picks up again.

I 100% it and after some time away, it was a great game. I think masterpiece is pushing it and all the reviews giving it super high scores might be effected by recency bias. It can become a very monotonous game at times. Especially if you go for 100%.

Towards the end, you're basically just using elephant to get through everything. Its pretty broken.

I was expecting the planet core to be a giant fractone. I guess I should be glad that it wasnt predictable but its a little odd that in the Mario universe, the center of the planet is golden banana goop that is also basically the Triforce.

Is this supposed to be before the DKC games? I honestly couldnt tell if DK and K.Rool were acting like they already knew each other or if they were acting like theyre meeting for the first time. Also Pauline is a kid

I think there are lines in the game that imply it takes place after the DKC games.

After all the DKC (and 64) games for sure. I think even the Retro Studios ones considering K. Rool's absence is directly mentioned.

Also, it's implied that this isn't the same Pauline as the one from the arcade. In Japan, that character is called "Lady" and the postgame outfit referencing Lady is called a "Family Dress" or something. As for how that makes sense with Mario...I think now Jumpman isn't supposed to be the same character either. Nintendo probably got influenced by the Mario movie.

So Mario and Jumpman are two different people. And same goes for Pauline and Lady?

There's no real conclusive answer on what's going on with Pauline and the timeline. I think Nintendo (questionably) left so many clues pointing in different directions to make people reach their own conclusions.

My personal interpretation is that Pauline Jr. here is either the daughter or niece or something, of regular Pauline that we've always known. Mostly based on lines about how her grandmother was a singer, the family dress, etc...

Bananza 100% unequivocally takes place after all the mainline DK games though, that's pretty concrete.

DKC was my favorite series growing up, that finale was nostalgia overload and so fun! Loved it all. 10/10
