The sentencing needs to reflect that we hold police to a higher standard, so the stakes for police misbehavior should be higher. I don't think I'm generally a fan of mandatory minimum sentencing, given how they were primarily leveraged against minorities and those who were in crisis/addiction... but maybe cops should have them?
