seems pretty solid so far. They updated a ton of shit but it does still have the feel of the original game(they even use the same sound effect for going up/down stairs and leaving areas).

I only started on normal difficulty because I was wary after how hard the DQ3 remake was in some spots, but it's felt kinda easy 3 hours in so I might turn it up. I first played Dragon Warrior when I was like 8 and never beat it because I didn't understand the whole grinding for levels thing. Or that I needed to bring torches to caves, but you don't have to do that anymore.

They added in the random sparkly map loot and secret spots from the DQ3 remake too, and mini medals. I have 7 of those but haven't found where to turn them in yet. Pretty sure I need the red key for that.

I'm probably going to start it this weekend.

I've never played the original, so it'll be my first experience with it. I've liked the other Dragon Quest games I've played, so I'm looking forward to it.

Waiting for it to come in the mail. Should arrive by Monday.

Going to juggle DQ and FFT this weekend. Excited to see all the changes and new additions.

I am all over it like flies on poop. I'm hopping back and forth between DQ1 and DQ2, and I gotta say that I already love the Princess of Cannock.

Still not sure if I go w/ S1 to have the actual game on cart, bite the bullet and get the GKC for S2. Or just digital S2.

At this point Ive probably gone through DQ1 a half dozen times on various platforms, but that wont stop me from doing it again.

So, I don't know if it's guaranteed, but I won the Ultimate prize in my first tombola game in DQ2. Possibly each town that has a tombola stand has a different range of prizes.

Just started, the dog outfit is way too good, too much defense for so early in the game. Not going to use it even though it looks amazing. Facing multiple enemies alone is quiet fun actually.

This game for whatever reason gave out it's pre-order DLC in a weird way. If you buy it physical there is no kind of slip inside the case that has a code on it, and despite me pre-ordering to pick it up in the store there was no code printed on the receipt either (at gamestop).

Even if you pre-ordered to pick it up from the store at gamestop they still have to like, e-mail you the code. Since I didn't get anything I had to call the main support number for them to give me one.

*If you do bother to call support then have your receipt on hand. They are going to ask for the 6 digit number that is right under the date you picked the game up/to the left of the store employee that took care of your pre-order. That, and the 5 digit number/2 digit number that is to the right of the pick-up date.*

I want to, but theres some stuff I need to work on, and I feel like I should clear at least 1 game out of my backlog before I decide to buy it. Last few games Ive played were a JRPG, a JRPG, and a VN, so something with a bit more action is probably a good idea

and also why are bags of stuff the toughest enemies in the game?? Ive been killed by goodybags like 4 times and have never managed to kill one before it runs away lol

yeah thats how I did it. I got down to 4mp so had to finish him off with a couple regular attacks.

I tried to fight the Knight Aberrant again but couldnt even get him down to 50% in a very long fight. He killed me with a 202 damage attack

Went to fight Mr knight again since I got the story but thats supposed to send me there

killed myself with a 450 damage falcon slash after I used muster and he used deflect

I still wish Squeenix would have done the HD-2D Remakes in release order. I get why they didn't but like... damnit.

well its two games at least, so $40 each.

Ive never played DQ2 before but Im assuming its much bigger than DQ1, which seems like it will probably take around 25-30 hours or more. I dunno how much I have left to do.

Got too pissed off at Spiketail and went and killed the Knight Aberrant in one try lol. Spiked Armor is a game changer on that fight.

20.5k exp and 7.5k gold for a boss kill aint bad

I'm about 5 1/2 hours in and having a good time. The QOL stuff is good. The random Shades that are super strong are kind of annoying though. I died twice already because of those.

its a very true to the original adaptation, so if you go to an area youre not supposed to be in yet youll get smacked. Any time you go over a bridge the enemies get much stronger

the first time I ran into shades they hit kinda hard but also died fast. If/when you get a boomerang or whip make sure you keep them in your heros bag. You can switch weapons/armor without spending a turn, so you can switch from a single target weapon before you attack

I've been hoarding most of my gold so far, thought 60k would be quite a lot by this time.

The stuff the dwarf vendor finally wants to sell to me is so expensive I can't even afford everything I want :(

the remakes literally autosave before and after every battle, and at story points.

it even lets you "rematch" boss fights, so if you die you start at the beginning of the battle instead of having to run back and skip through dialogue

I think the battles are much harder, to make up for this. it's been like 20 years since I played the GBA version of DQ1(and 30 since I played Dragon Warrior), but I'm pretty sure that game like the original was just you vs 1 enemy every battle, and pretty much the only thing they did was regular attacks and the occasional spell

I will say the original Switch release of the trilogy and mobile ports of I and II are good for playing the older versions with more polish*. Both those versions of II have the Zoom spell taking you to any save location while the NES, Super Famicom and the Game Boy Color didn't.

III barring the HD-2D reason is best played via GBC. But if you played no earlier version of III, then the Mobile and first Switch release is good for that.

*For example, in the Famicom and NES release of I, you had to go onto a set or stairs, then select stairs in the command menu to go up and down.

I intend to pick it up but I'm waiting for it to go on sale, but that probably won't be for awhile since 2+3 didn't start going on sale until a few months after release at least.

I think I have to switch to less defensive armor for Spiketail since the damage is almost all magic. I got close one time and then accidentally hit reheal instead of healmore when I had 30hp, died next turn

I'm aware of that, this isn't that though. There are Shades that will randomly have super high defense or HP and do high damage with their attacks (30+ HP) even if you have stronger armor on. I've even run in to a group of 3 Shades and only one of the group is like that.

Shades take on the stats of other random monsters. So sometimes theyll be really weak and other times theyll be really strong. And you never can tell since, you know, they shade themselves.

also it seems like monsters have different levels even in the same battle/area. I know their HP can vary at least, because Ive had some live through damage that killed the same type of enemy in the same battle

Is the Switch 2 version enough of an upgrade to buy the digital version there (fuck game-key card releases), or is the Switch 1 physical version about on par with it?

I barely remember Spiketail in 1, but at least in Draconian difficulty, he uses freezing blizzard twice for two turns after summoning backup, of which he will consistently do in two turns. Was annoying. Much less so than the Zombie Dragons though.

Fucking hate the Armageddon fight in Draconian difficulty, the longest freaking boss fight ever. He heals around 20-70 hp per turn. His attacks are actually pretty survivable, but the amount of damage you can do is around 150 every other turn cause you need to either heal or keep buffs up. Took hours to kill him cause of a stupid random crit that ruined one of my chances...

Yeah I may have been wrong about the Spiketail nerf, I saw on Reddit that his attack pattern changes below 50%. My first few tries I didnt get him that low, so it was just freezing blizzard all the time

Just killed the Dragonlord earlier today at lvl 43 and you really need to be that high.

I'm 36 now, so I'm pretty sure I'm close to done. it's been too long since I played the gbc game so I don't remember everything.

some things from the original NES game are still burned into my head, like the map layout and wyverns and golems being really annoying

I started 2. It's pretty good so far

Man it is crazy how good they made the Prince of Cannock, or was it mostly cause I played the original as a kid that he was horrible and was only there to be a healbot? It really feels like they made him into a DQ hero light instead of a jack of all trades he was originally, which of course is always meh. Now he is almost a master of all. Still not quiet a true DQ hero master of all, but close enough.
