Board 8 > What are the top 10 most B8 games?

15 years ago b8 came and produced this list of top 10 games

If the question asked now was "what are the 10 most "b8 games" what would that list look like? It's a little different than how the games on that first list were decided (e.g. Ace Attorney never made that list) but of course there would be overlap. Not to mention we're all in our 60s now. Does anything even get replaced?

For reference in the first list the 10 games were

And LttP and RE4 as HMs

I've played all except Umineko but only a few minutes for MGS3 and a few hours for FFT and OoT.

Super Mario World? I haven't gotten the impression that this board cares about SMW any more than other top Mario games.

Oh Mario World can be kicked for Breath of the Wild discourse

On ace attorney, it is without a doubt the game/series that comes to mind first when I think B8

B8 was my introduction to the series. Likely would have never played if not for here (or if i would have, it probably wouldn't have been until like much much later). Different than just another critically acclaimed game that people could found through the top score filter on any game site

Any other obsessive phases the board had for other games

I dont remember for sure but I might have found Persona through the board as well

TF is an Umineko?

We definitely had a pretty big Tales of Symphonia phase

Nah, the MGS2 people are just loud (and always have been, even when MGS3 made that list)

Mario World -> Ace Attorney feels natural. Maybe dump Umineko too since the hype period has worn off.

Because MGS2 fans hate MGS3 more than MGS3 fans hate MGS2...!

But yeah, Umineko wouldn't make it now. That's a natural drop-off for Ace Attorney. Not sure Tactics makes it now, but who knows with the new port.

FFT, Umineko, and Persona 4 all feel rocky. I definitely associate Umineko and FFT with this board specifically as opposed to any other video game forum, though.

I've only played 2 of those. My taste is so different from this board, though I do think FFX is one of the best games of all time.

I feel like we always ask this question about FFVII and OoT, and the answer is still yes.

FF7 I don't doubt, but I don't see many people raving about OoT anymore. Maybe the FF7 fans are just louder (and have more to talk about, thanks to the remakes.)

So far I'm the only person to have played all 10 in the original poll! I blame Umineko for this.

I feel like I strongly associate old LucasArts games like Grim Fandango and Monkey Island with Board 8, but I don't remember why.

#1 was Undertale and #2 was Celeste, incidentally. Umineko was #24

OoT is the one I feel the shakiest about on my list. I think a Zelda game should be on there, but I don't know which one.

Part of me feels like Majora's Mask should be on there instead of OoT, but that doesn't feel right either.

Outer Wilds has some very loud supporters here (I'm one of them) but its playrate here isn't that high.

I could see Breath of the Wild making a list now (or coming close)

Despite some very vocal detractors, it's the 2nd-highest rated Zelda on the series topic, only beaten out by LttP!

Although I also think it's difficult for any game that released after the PS3/360/Wii era to get on a list like this. We're generally played fewer games as we get older, and there's way more choices nowadays, so our collective attention has fractured. There's no game like FF7 where everyone here tries it out. Closest probably is BotW, but yeah.

Umineko is probably up there and I have seen like five people max ever talk about Tales or Trails games outside of this board, but I couldn't point to a specific game. I feel like they need to be specifically B8 and not just universally accepted good games, though FF7, AA and Chrono Trigger are really B8.

(Highly doubt any Zero Escape game would make it, that series' time here has come and gone)

Is this about the most B8 games or B8's favorite games? The two aren't quite the same. If you want games that're most popular on B8 relative to other hardcore gaming communities, I think Zero Escape/Umineko/Trails/Tales are all up there.

Well, the original list was most popular games on B8, so that's what I'm basing my guesses on

I think what I'm looking for is somewhere in between the two.

But I'm fine with either interpretation. Like do I think of FF7 particularly as a "b8 game" not really but it's certainly true that a lot of people here like it a lot. And for some people that might make it a "b8 game"

Is zero escape, umineko, etc. more popular here than other communities? I think so but if we had a limited number of spots, would that factor be enough to put it over something rated more highly on the board (but also generally more popular)? Idk

If I point to Ace Attorney, is there anybody that would disagree that it's a "B8 game" (whatever interpretation they use)? So what is it about AA that gives it that characterization and then what are other titles similar to that

What makes something like Ace Attorney or Umineko unique here is that this is something most of us learned about from B8 and something we largely experienced together

Like again I'm pretty sure i got into persona because of this board. Saw it being talked up a lot and one day saw it on sale and was like "hey it's that game that the board keeps talking about"

And the rest is a $1000+ history
