So the most useful interpretation of a "B8 game" is one where we are far more interested in it than the average. It might still apply to big games like OoT and FF7 due to the sheer fanaticism here (bobs punch etc)

The most B8 games? Thats going to be every Ace Attorney game, every Trails game, Tales of Symphonia, and Umineko. And maybe the Danganronpas

I don't feel that Katamari Damacy has a bigger affinity to this board than anywhere else.

that's a good guideline to consider yea. not sure how to measure that but i'm going to try just looking through older projects and such to start to see which titles keep coming up throughout the years.

and then maybe start comparing and then whittling down to a perceived 'average gamer opinion' or something

honestly it might not ever make it to all the way to a top 10 or anything but i think even having a decent sized list would be cool

looking through old Guru noms to start. i was thinking along the lines of, even if they were chosen by one user, being a board-wide nom may have upped visibility among the base here and subsequently translated to the game being a "B8 game"

Prinny - my immediate thought was that Disgaea definitely felt like it would be bigger on B8 than average. but even among b8ers the series felt like a tier below the usual suspects

Yuri Lowell - the blurb on the wiki about how badly Yuri lost in the site contest did remind me how terrible Tales characters were in contests. But they've done pretty well on the board, so yeah Tales series def needs a rep (or two or three if I go the route of not limiting it to 10)

That's likely true to some extent. Back in Gens 4-6, it was common for big series to put out multiple great games in a single generation. Nowadays it can take 8+ years for an AAA game to come out and then it manages to be polarizing or flat out bad. Meanwhile there's a zillion indie games out there, a zillion retro games getting ports, etc.

In some ways modern gaming is better than it ever was, but there's definitely a lot more hopping around to check out random indie games which are randomly awesome (e.g. Balatro), the best X games from series Y but stop there (e.g. Tales of Berseria is amazing but the main series games directly before and after it were trash), and other tricks which can get tiring. Whereas back in Gen 5 and some of 6 you could just say "I'll buy every big game from Nintendo, Square, and Capcom that's up my alley" and be swimming in great games.

Was also just easier/more likely to feel the communal aspect of playing a game because of the age of the medium (and more free time, etc.)

But yeah pretty unlikely that a new "b8 game" emerges
