Anyone who don't like him would be wise to make their peace with the possibility of him getting the nomination for the Presidency. The only thing most voters will care about come 2028 is fighting Trump and Republicans.

Newsom seems to be one of the few Dems that actually recognizes the moment and how to tap into it. He'll win the nomination just for simply not being a dinosaur, and any policies he has are just a plus.

Anyone else calling them out or is Newsom the only person in the country representing the people?

Unfortunately, he's persona non grata in the eyes of the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender activists. If he is to be a presidential candidate, he'll have to work overtime to win them over lest we have another "Killer Kamala" movement on our hands.

They shut down the government for 40 days in exchange for literally nothing and also caved at the point of their max leverage (after a big election win).

By caving, not only do you optically show weakness (trump and the Republicans will be screaming "see, they could have ended it all along") but you gave up the only leverage you have as the minority party. They kick the can down the road. Does anyone actually believe the Republicans will genuinely approach this issue whenever the extension expires?

The shutdown forced the GOP to own this, and the Democrats just tossed them a lifeline for no reason

He has my vote at the moment. I haven't heard from any other prominent Democrat, that are going out and taking big swings at Trump and the Republican party like Newsom is doing. We're in a unique and very dangerous time in America, and he seems to realize it the most, out of all of the politicians we have on our side.

Newsom isn't great and he's showed his ass a lot the past year but he's of course better than nothing. I'm hoping for better candidates to show the grit he's showing but I'll be voting for him if it comes down to it.

People aren't going to like it, but he's probably the favorite right now for 2028. No way he's doing all this to NOT run and as sad as it is that politics has come to Twitter game, but he's got an excellent PR team.

If you all nominate Newsome in 2028, you deserve to lose again. Pick a candidate that will actually win a general election. It shouldnt be that hard. The Dems won every election they should have recently so thats positive momentum. The trick is to pick up seats and win back areas you are not supposed to win.

Just throwing this out there if that Socialist won NY, Bernie could have won a general election and people have been screaming this for almost a decade now. Its your own fault for not running a proper primary if you vote blue without reason. (IMO)

But yeah, Federal Workers not getting paid during this fiasco is the biggest reason government shutdowns usually don't last too long. Dems are in a bad situation with them actually caring enough that people are compensated for their labor.

There are a lot of things I hate about Newsom, I still see him as a tool for the establishment but he's smart enough to know things are going.

Yeah...Dems didn't have the best standing/leverage on this considering how malicious and nasty the GOP and its voters have become (they don't give a darn about government workers). It felt like a question of whether government workers getting paid or preserving parts of ACA was more important. The former is more pressing of course. It is up to the American people to vote properly if the healthcare insurance situation is to ever be fixed.

In my opinion that's kinda where we are. Dank memes and sound bites and one liners on Twitter. Newsom is a way more complete package in person while Pritzker maybe looks better on paper.

Once you get JB and Newsom on the stage side by side, it's over. Pritzker is gonna be sweating and shit while Newsom is calm and collected. Just my thought, I can't think of anyone more attractive for Dems than Newsom atm.
