Gamefaqs is getting as bad as Fandom wiki at this point. What's a good option for ad blocker on mobile? I've just been using Chrome since ut came preinstalled on my Galaxy S23

Found your problem. Use a different browser. Personally I would avoid Chrome and chromium-based browsers and stick with firefox and firefox-based browsers. uBlock Origin addon for the ad blocker.

Yeah, the ads are getting rough on mobile. I usually don't mind since I know why ads are necessary, but these persistent popups are hard to deal with.

I use Vivaldi on mobile and its built-in adblocker has gotten the job done

Some mobile browsers let you install Ublock Origin if you need something stronger

That's what I do on pc. I vaguely remember trying to do that on mobile a few years ago and it didn't work for me but I can't remember why

Not sure how it works on mobile, but when I switched from Chrome to Firefox on PC it pretty much just asked to import all my bookmarks and stuff and was handled with a single click.

It's a DNS level ad block since Google blocks ad blocker apps from the Play store. You just plug that in your network settings and no more ads in any browser you use on your phone.

In a semi related thing. I notice a lot of streamers when going to websites on stream, they never use ad blockers. Is there some fine print in the user agreement stating theyre not allowed to use them on stream or something?

So first off, don't use Chrome. Ever. 2025 Chrome is trash that's tailor-made to feed you ads.

Second, as mentioned, Firefox + uBlock Origin will solve 99.9% of your problems, and you can transfer bookmarks pretty easily, especially if you have it on desktop.

I use 1Block, not familiar with AdGuard. 1Block works great although blocking elements got a lot more annoying because it doesn't do it directly in Safari anymore.

Google has basically declared war on ad blockers. They've updated Chrome's backend to basically disable all but the most primitive ad blocking, and while it's just Chrome for now it's likely it will propagate to Edge, Brave, and other browsers that are based on the Chromium codebase. Then there's Youtube, where they're trying to block user access if they detect an ad blocker.

Also, I think you're underestimating how tech illiterate most people are. Many people don't realize ad blockers even exist, and trying to explain it to some of them will just give answers like "it works fine leave it" even after you tell them that ads are one of the main sources of malware.

Ah that's why it looked weird. You'll need to go into your phone's network/internet settings and you'll see the option for a private DNS.

Its funny, up until this point I was prepared to deal with the ads on Gamefaqs. By increasing the ad density to such a ridiculous level Fandom has made sure they lose revenue rather than increasing it lol.
