From someone who recently decided to start watching Critical Role and chose to jump into the Amazon show and not watch the source first I would say it's okay on it's own but not amazing. I feel a lot of it's love is due to fans of Critical Role being happy that it finally got made into a show.

Ive never watched CR and dont plan to but I watched Vox Machina and enjoyed it quite a bit. Its got a lot of humor and heart to it

Looking forward to it.

Not a groundbreakingly good episode, but it does the job. Particularly when I think the first three episodes are meant to be released one after the other. Quite like the changes they've made honestly.

Nott's voice will take a little getting used to, it's pretty different from what Sam does in the stream. I dunno if it's the result of his cancer (Nott is a pretty rough voice) or if they just wanted her to be a little more feminine, but it's pretty jarring either way. Not bad, just not what I'm used to.

And this is a more personal thing, but Beau is more androgynous than I always pictured her. If not for Marisha's voice, I could very easily see people thinking she's male. Again, not a bad thing, just not what I'm used to.

The name originated as a joke. Liam's character is German and they rolled a lot of lines early on, prompting the cast to shout nein in bad accents whenever they did.

It works out pretty well because the group is pretty anti-authority, so The Big No is a pretty good name.

At this point, MAGA is another word for Neo Nazi, only dumber. They'll be attracted to anything German like a weeb is to anything Japanese.

From what I have seen of preview trailers, Taliesin's Molly has a much stronger Irish accent than what he used in the stream too. With all the famous people they have doing voices, I wonder if they will get D&D players like Anderson Cooper or Stephen Colbert for cameos?

I am liking the format though, The Legend of Vox Machina is a more direct translation of events in the game, whereas Mighty Nein seems to be 'based on the events'.

Nott's voice was super crazy at the beginning, but by the end, I'd acclimated.

I really liked the episode. Frumpkin had me crying. I love Caleb, and with the context of knowing his story, the Find Familiar scene really hit hard.

I think the episode implies it's just faulty ingredients or Caleb's own weak magic.

But people on the subreddit pointed out that the spell says you burn it in a brass brazier and Caleb just burned it on the floor lol

Yeah, I was not sure what they meant when they said his magic was taken or whatever. As a wizard, if you know the spell and have the components, you can cast. So I took that to mean he just is in such a poor state he has none/next to none of the requisite supplies. Find Familiar costs 10 gold. That's actually kind of a lot of money in DnD, so that's what I chalked the failure up to. Probably just didn't have enough.

But they might be going with the whole magic comes from self-confidence thing? Or the will to wield, it I suppose, and Caleb's too broken, at the moment?

Caleb might also just literally be too weak, physically so.

I was surprised he went after incense though, I thought he was stealing paper and ink lol
