Of the original trilogy I've only played the first game and that was after playing both 2018 and Ragnarok. It was okay for what it was but I much prefer the newer games.

I may go back and check out 2 and 3 at some point, but it's not high up on my gaming priority list.

No. It doesn't have any of the charm of the first two games (or even the handheld ones) or a story that invests me while playing. Instead they just said "people play this for the cool god killing thing so let's just turn that up to eleven and not have a game beyond that.

It's really good, but I kinda disliked it when I played it. Really didn't care for anything with the Pandora plot, especially Zeus and everyone being so evil because they were poisoned and corrupted by the box being opened in the first game.

Gameplay was great. Graphics were fantastic. Boss fights kicked a lot of ass. I enjoyed how far they went with Kratos being a monster.

Looking forward to replaying the whole series at some point.

Yes, favorite of the series. I just wish the franchise now didnt dedicate every waking moment to reminding us how bad kratos was then. As if he wasnt the coolest thing ever at the time the franchise owes everything to.

Mortal man enslaved by the God of War, is betrayed by the God of War and gets his revenge and becomes the God of War, then is 'betrayed' (no longer tolerated) by the other Gods, and then goes on a quest to change (his/all of) fate.

It isn't like Kratos can't be sympathized with on some levels, though his over the top penchant for violence should make someone want to keep a healthy distance from idolization of him.

In 3, going on to declare war on the Gods for their 'betrayal' of him can feel like jumping the shark though. And it isn't like Kratos' actions through 3 are reserved or done with any sense of reluctance, just (pure) bloodlust and vengeance. It goes from an almost reasonable course of action to near flanderization of Kratos' character.

Now, it is obvious that is kind of the point of the series, being over the top with its violence and story telling elements, where you're just supposed to kinda nod your head and go with the flow/absurdity of it all.

Can't blame someone for growing tired of Kratos' antics by 3. Especially if you played CoO/GoS.

It's also why the storytellers leaned heavy into Kratos' regret in GoW 2018, the only realistic growth a character like post-GoW3 Kratos can engage in is either more absurd/over the top violent behavior... or stoic regret about the behavior he engaged in.
