What Mal thinks happens in 1984 apparently:
-there are two major parties, plus tons of unaffiliated groups
-having major influence over one part of the media is the same as literally owning and controlling it entirely
-the media is free to report what they want, right or wrong
-others are allowed to call out the media
-media outlets are free to disagree with the government and each other, and do so constantly
What mal does not understand of RL:
The government is not the media. They do influence it due to media having blind support for said party but there is no direct control, unlike 1984.
As I said the closest is china and korea I believe, the US is nowhere close to that point yet.
