This is a common internet rumor

I think the reality is an ingredient used in Hershey chocolate is the same as a compound found In vomit. However, actual vomit has a MUCH more acidic taste. It isn't even close. It's like not eating anything with salt because you don't like the taste of ocean water

Yeah I don't think anybody is saying that Hershey's chocolate tastes exactly like every ingredient of vomit with no extra ingredients.

Kinda like nobody thinks Tom Hanks and Bill Murray are completely indistinguishable, even though they do look sorta similar.

Hershey's chocolate tastes like vomit if you're vomiting a stomach full of Hershey's chocolate.
It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

It doesnt, but I still think American chocolate is kind of ew.

Hell I don't like Hershey's chocolate, and I can understand where the vomit thing is coming from.

Regardless, I don't think anybody is saying the flavor is indistinguishable from vomit.

Its objectively one of the shittiest kinds of chocolate available. Just pure mass produced American crap. Whether it tastes exactly like vomit or not is irrelevant, it isn't anything anyone should spend even one calorie on.

pretty sure people who say shit like "hershey's chocolate tastes like vomit" are the same kind of people who say "pineapple doesn't belong on pizza"
It don't matter. None of this matters.

I had to throw up quite a bit last night. I fucking wish it tasted like Hershey's chocolate coming back up; that, at least, would have made it at least slightly less awful to have to put up with.

Yeah pizza snobbery is some of my least favorite. I prefer some pizza chains over others, but at the end of the day its still the fast food equivalent of pizza.

People act like eating at a certain pizza chain will destroy their pizza cred lmao

acidic flavor does not automatically mean vomit though

just say it has acidic flavor instead of saying vomit if thats what you taste

It absolutely does have a slight vomit taste. Nobody is saying it tastes exactly like it.

Americans pretending they don't notice it is almost as cringe as when they pretend root beer, which is vile, doesn't taste like mouthwash.

But in this case, since we know that the acid is butyric acid, which is also a byproduct of digestion, that explains why some people think it tastes like vomit.

Yep, came in to post this. Actually thought this is what this topic was going to be about. Supposedly the manufacturing process that Hershey's uses produces butyric acid, which is the distinctive tasting/smelling acid in vomit. So if that's the case, then it's not really hyperbole or snobbery. It's just a taste you grow accustomed to if Hershey's is the main chocolate you eat, and you likely associate that flavor much more with chocolate than vomit. But people not used to it will pick up on it immediately

Butyric acid is a compound found in milk products and is also present in rancid butter and vomit, which is why it might evoke a sick taste association. Some American chocolate manufacturers add butyric acid during production to give the chocolate a longer shelf life
Only the milk chocolate tastes like vomit

Butyric acid is in lots of things. It's in milk, butter, meat, basically anything you can eat from an animal has butyric acid in it. None of those things "taste like vomit"

Why does this upset you? It's literally a global thing. Some people are more sensitive to certain chemicals. Hershey chocolate has a taste reminescent of vomit for some people, due to higher concentrations of butyric acid. Why is that bad to say?

It's just low quality milk chocolate. It's fine.
Low quality American style*. The rest of the world produces milk chocolate in a different way so it does not produce butyric acid.
