usually any food thats ubiquitous is just because it's easier to farmIts this.
It's like a perfect blend of the two. I would love having duck outside of just Chinese takeout.Duck is waay fattier, and has a more gamier taste. And a lot more expensive. I can get chicken leg quarters for 69 to 115 cents/lb.

duck is probably neither one of those thingsducks are generally a lot easier to raise compared to chickens. idk about on a factory farm level, but in general they're better, more consistent egg layers and less likely to get disease.
Humans tend to be averse to eating "cute" animals
Hence, eating chicken and turkey is okay, while eating duck is not.
Duck is good. People are better.Pororin

From my understanding most of the fat is in the breast (giggity).Actually chicken breast is where there is less fat, which is how it got its reputation for being more "healthy" in the US. White meat parts of chicken like the breast have less fat while dark meat parts like legs and thigh are fattier (and tastier and more nutritious). It's similar to how egg yolks got demonized for cholesterol/fat even though it's the tastiest and most nutritious part of the egg. Even though attitudes are changing, dietary fat is still demonized in the US.
100% agree. There's not much more mouth-watering that a seared duck breast with crispy skin. If you cook it right, you can render most of the fat so it's not as fatty, & you have leftover duck fat which is liquid gold. That actually looks good. I had it once in SLC that was a bit too rare for my liking. Could be the whole bird can't be raw thing engrained in my brain. I didn't get sick, but the texture just didn't jive with me.

Let me know when we have duck farms churning out ducks by the millions.
I've been wanting to try duck for years, but it's a bit out of my price rangeA lot of Chinese restaurants will have duck on the menu, if you want a budget friendly option.
It's the fat
Same reason fish is considred gross, and I love fish
It's the fatThere are huge varieties of fish that range from lean to fatty (also dependent on specific cuts and time of year). It's not down to fat.

I like duck, but my biggest problem is the meat to bone ratio.
Duck is great. And its hella popular in other cultures cuisines.
its also difficult to prepare which immediately puts it at odds with the American easy-to-consume cuisine.
