I just wish it had one more floor

That one recently passed into the public domain, at least in the U.S.

I highly recommend watching a version with the Voices of Light soundtrack - https://youtu.be/NS_s6jrHnFE

I would have gone with The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure

But this is about art film. That's one of his documentaries

Though The Shining towards the top of people's lists feels kind of default judging against the rest of the list, I dare anyone who listed it as #1 to watch it again in a theatre or without any distractions (book/phone/Shining as background) and see how it holds up to you. The movie is a slog.

Hey now, I gave every entry my full attention at least once and it wasn't hard for The Shining! I think the fact that we can even attend theatrical screenings of this 40-year-old movie speaks to how well it holds up, few movies enjoy that kind of longevity.

If you're getting distracted by books while watching movies that just sounds like a focus problem

I might as well get in on this one since I've already enjoyed at least half of these

Would anyone be interested in doing a Nicolas Cage ranking in the future? I'm on a mission to watch all his movies (eventually) so I might as well curate a list of his finest work

Thanks to Snake for hosting a great list and everyone who made it through...or even part of the way through for participating. Good excuse to revisit some old favorites and discover some new ones, and I always enjoy reading through the variety of reactions in the writeups

Drink deep or taste not the plasma spring, you see what I'm saying?

Speaking of best performances on the list, Goldblum crushes the behavioral/dispositional transformation here. I think he sells it in a way that makes it look easier than it is.

Guessing The Thing is #2

I don't think I can catch up at this point so I might as well go with a dark horse pick

Pokmon Movie 05: Mizu no Miyako no Mamorigami Latias to Latios from outta nowhere
You bow to no one, azuarc
Great movie, the best surprise on the list. I watched all of the movies in chronological order and then went back to Possession for seconds because nothing else went that hard (that I hadn't seen before)

It's bound to be Nightmare on Elm Street next

Bit of trivia I found out while writing about this one - Michael Keaton is not related to Diane Keaton, and neither are related to Buster Keaton. Three independently famous Keatons

I'll go with A Nightmare on Elm Street now
You bow to no one, azuarc
Might as well stay on Beetlejuice until it drops
You bow to no one, azuarc
I'm sticking with Beetlejuice

Honestly, I thought Predator was a top 5 lock but I guess 9 isn't far off. It's such a well-crafted crowdpleaser with every department bringing their A-game

I notice the site still runs political ads. That's gonna be cute when election season heats up

Banality is the lamest Mortal Kombat finisher

Evil Dead II took me a while to come around on, when I first saw it I was disappointed that it eschewed the grisly, threatening vibe of the first movie and took a more cheesy parodical direction instead. On top of which, it mucks up the continuity. I really had to mentally decouple it from the original to get into it.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the next one is Beetlejuice and we're gonna have one sad Tim Burton fan

Biggest snub, Vampire's Kiss comes to mind

Yeah Hellraiser 2 goes nuts. This reminds me I found a pretty good Pinhead cosplay at a horror movie con last year

Solid top tep, of course seven of mine are still in it so naturally I'm going to think that. I'll stick with Videodrome for #10

1. ???
2. ???
3. ???
4. ???
5. Tetsuo: The Iron Man
6. ???
7. Re-Animator
8. ???
9. Hellraiser
10. ???
11. ???
12. ???
13. Gremlins
14. Christine
15. Friday the 13th
16. Phenomena
17. ???
18. Killer Klowns from Outer Space
19. Prince of Darkness
20. Creepshow
21. Sleepaway Camp
22. The Dead Zone
23. The Changeling
24. An American Werewolf in London
25. The Lost Boys
26. Poltergeist
27. Pet Sematary
28. Child's Play
29. Basket Case
30. Fright Night
You bow to no one, azuarc
As for my placement of Basket Case/Tetsuo, the critical difference there is that Tetsuo doesn't bore me. I put that one at 5 precisely because it has a high "fun to watch" watch value, not because of any high-brow meaning or metaphor. This is a movie where a guy gets stop-motion rocket boots

Henry is unkillable, let's go with Videodrome
You bow to no one, azuarc
The fun police can't let Henry keep getting away with this!
You bow to no one, azuarc
Elevator
You bow to no one, azuarc
A #2 huh, I could see it being Possession
You bow to no one, azuarc
I'll switch to Henry
You bow to no one, azuarc
I had no idea that Fright Night was that well-liked, to the point where people consider it superior to Child's Play. Chucky is so iconic, whereas the only time I've ever heard anyone refer to Fright Night was Herschel Walker on the campaign trail.

Let's keep it rolling with The Dead Zone
You bow to no one, azuarc
Ayy finally called one, time to go back to Fright Night
You bow to no one, azuarc
I'll go with Phenomena this time
You bow to no one, azuarc
Glad I'm not the only one who found George C. Scott too unflappable in the lead role.

And shouldn't I get 200 for guessing Changeling in the 21st slot?

I'll take another shot in the dark this time because I don't believe in The Dead Zone
You bow to no one, azuarc
I totally agree that Near Dark is the superior 80's counterculture vampire movie

Although I have been enjoying "I Still Believe" nearly daily since watching this. The sax guy is immortal, there's even an SNL skit about him

vegas: shot in the dark this time, show me The Changeling
You bow to no one, azuarc
Alright I'll bite on Creepshow
You bow to no one, azuarc
Okay Child's Play caught me by surprise but this time it's gonna be Fright Night...FOR REAL
You bow to no one, azuarc
Bamboozled, I just couldn't see it getting a #2 ranking

this time I better stick with my first instinct, it's Fright Night.
You bow to no one, azuarc
then it's bound to be something divisive, I'll switch my guess to Possession.
You bow to no one, azuarc
I'll guess Prince of Darkness this time
You bow to no one, azuarc
I like how the quote is included on the poster
You bow to no one, azuarc
Oh shoot, off by one on my Pet Sematary pick!

I do think I overrated Friday the 13th at 15, now that the initial relief of the killer not being Jason has worn off. It really does compare unfavorably to Sleepaway Camp
You bow to no one, azuarc
Okay I'm switching my pick to Tetsuo >_>
You bow to no one, azuarc
Poser disclosure - in 4th grade, I dressed up as Jason for Halloween and to this day I have never seen any of the movies that feature Jason. I just thought the glow-in-the-dark hockey mask looked cool.

I'll go with Re-Animator this time
You bow to no one, azuarc
I'm gonna go with Pet Sematary this time, thinking maybe it suffers some Stephen King SFF
You bow to no one, azuarc
Put me down for Fright Night
You bow to no one, azuarc
Well the next one has got to be Sleepaway Camp
You bow to no one, azuarc
I wasn't sure how to read the dream sequence at the end. Is the point that Duane is dream-piloting Belial, or is Belial in control and Duane simply receives it telepathically?
You bow to no one, azuarc
She showed us that women can be exploitative colonizers too
You bow to no one, azuarc
Steve Harvey
Cedric the Entertainer
Bernie Mac

I'm pretty sure he's just trolling at this point, he's leaned more and more into the shtick over time
You bow to no one, azuarc
Save the titan blood for weapon upgrades, and go for gemstones early on because there are a few functional things to buy with them before they become the currency for cosmetics. The broker will always have one unique deal after each run so it's worth checking every time.

Also, if you're using a controller the trick with the fishing is to go by the visual indication and not the controller vibration. It took me a long time to figure out you can get a 'perfect catch' if you hit it right on and produce rarer fish/items.
You bow to no one, azuarc
idk I think it makes sense why Iron Man didn't get a movie before the likes of Punisher, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider
You bow to no one, azuarc
I couldn't name 20 superheroes before the MCU became a thing, but Iron Man wouldn't have been one of them

edit: and I certainly knew who the Thundercats were. Iron Man was beneath Snarf on my radar
