All it takes are a few people with some juice to make waves in any part of the political spectrum. The modern American political left was reignited by one old man in 2016 and again by AOC a few years later. Zohran has a chance to do that again in a time when the establishment has shown itself to be out of ideas and unable to lead or galvanize resistance.

The consequences of this could be huge. I'd love to see a country where it's not just about whether you're a Democrat, it's about whether you're a Zohran style Dem or not.

A few people with a pulse can be worth more than a trillion political zombies combined.

My whole point is that it SHOULD be a controversial statement and it's a moral and policy failure that it isn't because most of our politicians support endless police wars. I really don't get your attitude towards Klippenstein. He constantly criticizes the Republicans, far more effectively and viciously than many Democrats do. This is one of the few potentially good things it could do. But they're standing behind someone who fired the people who actually do cancer research. Who cut funding for cancer research. Who is chasing research and researchers to other countries. Who has killed hundreds of thousands of innocent kids all across the world by destroying foreign aid.

While they were smiling behind him, he was promising to impose catastrophic mass layoffs purely to hurt members of the opposing political party, in which all parts of science and research would not be spared.

Lots of black people, poor people, LGBT people, women, immigrants, etc are apolitical. It's wrong, but it's not really exclusively because of luxury. It's because of apathy, ignorance, or a lack of political education and realizing that even if you opt out of trying to affect politics, it never stops affecting you.

Conservatives understand and have long term plans to destroy, weaken, and compromise institutions and organizations that challenge their power or that produce the type of people that oppose them. That's why they target schools, colleges, non-profits, government workers, unions, the media, etc. They want to actively create a populous that never thinks of anything other than being conservative and that is scared of and angry at even the suggestion of other ways of thinking.

People who oppose that need to actively create a society geared towards maximizing solidarity through all the same institutions with the same intensity. And the pillars of the fascist mindset need to be taken down. Right wing dominance over media has to be addressed first and foremost. Education standards need to be high and universal and focused on critical thinking and the humanities. Those are the two most important things long term. Next is concentration of wealth and corporate power.

In the short term, there needs to be immediate, severe consequences for everyone who enabled the actions currently taking place. Consequences so severe and that go from top to bottom so that no one will ever think fascism pays. We cannot repeat the mistakes of Reconstruction. We will need a Reconstruction after this. But it can't also be sticks, there needs to be carrots that convince ordinary people to reject fascism by meeting their material needs. Moving away from fascism needs to be a lot more attractive than staying trapped in it by upping the cost of staying and increasing the benefits of leaving.
