I mean, it's not a surprise that something still explicitly in the experimental phase is going to have flaws.

Tell me how well it's working 5 years from now and I'll care more.

It's been implied it wasn't actually him. Alanis is usually cagey about it (the same way Carly Simon is about "You're So Vain"), but she's also straight up denied it was him a few times.

Dave himself is the one who mainly says it was him, but he's also changed his mind a few times and denied it as well. And there's like 3-4 other guys who apparently fit the bill.

The moral of the story is apparently Alanis went down on a lot of guys in theaters.

The most likely theory is that it's a song based on multiple relationships combined, and not one specific person.

please, dragon age 2 killed dragon age and you damn well know it did po

People shit on DA2, but it was never as bad as everyone made it out to be.

People complained because they didn't get to play as the Warden anymore, but Hawke was fine as a replacement, and it makes more sense to play as different characters in different regions while exploring different aspects of the world. Plus they got great VAs to play them. And the change meant they could have Hawke show up in later games, whereas we're never going to see the Warden again.

People complained because they changed the gameplay mechanics, but that was pretty much inevitable once the series went mainstream - and most people didn't flip their shit when Mass Effect 2 did the same thing.

People complained because it reused map assets - but again, Mass Effect did the same thing and no one cared. And it was fine since half the point was that the streets of Kirkwall all look the same (not to mention the whole game is framed as a story Varric is telling, so he's just leaving out details).

People complained because the story wasn't about a Chosen One saving the world, but if every story in the setting was that, it would get stupid very quickly (this is a problem the Elder Scrolls games already have). And a lot of people also complain about how cliche those types of stories have become, so you'd never please everyone no matter what you do anyway.

Meanwhile, DA2 had better music (than both DA:O and DA:I), strong characters (equal to DA:O and better than nearly everyone in DA:I), a strong story (albeit a more personal one), and did a better job setting up future stories than either DA:O or DA:I did (and DA:I seems to go out of its way to undo most of what you accomplish in both DA:O and DA2, as well as itself).

I really enjoyed DA2. DA:I broke me.

DA:I is about 1/3rd of a good DA game, dragged down by endless padding and slog, split focus, a desire to be more like Skyrim (and succeeding in all the worst ways), DLC that undoes most of what you've accomplished, and a reliance on the BS that is Dragon Age Keep.

DA2 left me excited for the next DA game. DA:I (combined with Andromeda and Anthem) have left me assuming BioWare isn't capable of making great games anymore.

This reminds me of some of the reviews of the live-action Masters of the Universe movie from the 1980s.

A lot of comic fans like to point out that it's basically a terrible Masters of the Universe movie, but works way better if you kind of squint and pretend it's a Fourth World movie instead:

I swear I've started this game 4 or 5 times and end up hating it every single time.

There was a time when Dragon Age was one of my favorite franchises. Bought the books and everything.

At this point I don't even care about DA4. I probably won't even bother playing it when it comes out.

just like in the movie Jurassic Park, Its basically just for millionaires and billionaires

It's... kind of not, though?

In the original movies, it's clearly intended for the masses, it just never has a chance to open. Hammond explicitly says he doesn't want it to just be for the rich. (Granted, book Hammond is waaay more of an asshole and is definitely in it solely for the money, but even he has more of a Disney-esque mentality of getting tons of people into the park, not just the rich, because you make more money that way).

In Jurassic World, you basically see tons of families there, and the Disney parallels are even more obvious.

The park is essentially designed to be affordable, but with tons of turnover and merch generating revenue, while reducing operating costs by cutting as many corners as possible (which is why everthing goes wrong).

I like the Durge origin a lot, but I hate when people insist that it's the canon playthrough and makes Tav obsolete.

The problem is, that's technically true - it is canon.

If WotC references BG3 in future works, the main character is going to be Durge, not Tav. It's also going to be a male white Dragonborn. "Tav" doesn't exist "canonically".

Larian honestly doesn't like player backstory agency, even if the vast majority of players prefer it. It's why in Divinity: Original Sin 2 you're "supposed" to play as one of the Origin characters and not a custom - you miss out on a LOT of the story if you play custom, and you don't really get anything unique in exchange.

Same with Tav and Durge - Durge gets extra plot, Tav doesn't. Most of the story is clearly built around Durge, Tav is basically a nobody.

I wouldn't say Durge makes Tav obsolete (I personally prefer the freedom of Tav, because I'm a filthy RPer). But Durge is definitely canonical, and clearly who Larian want you to play.

For Half-Drow, it's up to you, but in my experience when I played as the half-elf subrace, I didn't get any of the Drow dialogue IIRC. That's why I ended up going full-drow and customized him to look Half-Drow-ish.

From what I've heard, they get some Drow options, and some Half-Elf options - and at least a couple lines that are specifically for Half-Drow. So there is a difference between them and pure Drow or pure Half-Elf.

But like I said, I'm a filthy RPer. And I know a ton about Faerun. So I'm not as concerned about whether or not the game has a ton of reactivity for a specific race as opposed to whatever persona I'm
building in my head. I wouldn't necessarily pick the race or class options in a given conversation anyway if they don't fit who I think my character is.

(Incidentally, this is why I prefer Fallout: New Vegas over Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 - I'd rather have the total blank slate Obsidian gives me than the more defined backstory Bethesda clearly wants to integrate into the main story. I don't RP to have someone else tell me who I'm supposed to be.)

As an example, my impulsive and "whimsical" Half-Elf Warlock raised on the streets of Baldur's Gate would probably be picking very different options than my "Merciful" Half-Elf Selunite Cleric raised in a temple, and neither of them would be overly hung up on their heritage (ie, not picking the Half-Elf options). But a Half-Drow would be much more aware of being sort of trapped between two worlds.

I feel like the Background and Class options do more to shape personality than Race does (for me, anyway). Though I'll lean into it more for the full Drow and Tiefling runs, especially since those are so strongly tied into the Act 1 plot.

I was considering a Gnome at one point, but I heard some of the smaller races can have camera issues in some scenes. It was originally going to be my Warlock, and I may still play one eventually, but if I do I'll probably go Barbarian in memory of Nudo (RIP).

You've just described comic books.

If you think two titles at the same time is confusing, avoid Superman, Batman, or Spider-Man, where they've had four monthly titles at the same time in the past, and even went biweekly at times. Not to mention the inevitable crossovers.

Also amazing how expensive recliners where back then. I think I got mine for like $250 brand new 6 or 7 years ago.

To be fair, it's not really a generic recliner. It's got some extra bells and whistles that would absolutely jack up the price.

It's like how even today you can get a recliner cheap, but you're still going to pay a lot more for one with power lift, massage, or heating element tech.

Plus, La-Z-Boy is an established brand, so you're probably paying more for that than you would for a cheaper or more obscure brand.

I bought my last recliner (high-quality, overstuffed, leather) brand new 8 years ago for about $750.

My first character was a Half-Elf Archfey Warlock Urchin, with long cyan and purple streaked hair. I was mostly playing Chaotic Good.

At some point I'm probably going to play both good and evil Durges (Half-Drow Sword Bard and Drow Battlemaster Fighter), a Half-Elf Selunite Cleric Acolyte, a Human Storm Sorcerer Noble, Human Devotion Paladin Soldier, and maybe a Tiefling Lore Bard Charlatan.

True, but PC is pretty much the same thing as XBox - Microsoft sees it as a Windows platform.

I think Minecraft was the first major game that was directly owned by Microsoft that also got PS and Nintendo releases, and that honestly might just be because they got them before Microsoft bought Mojang. So it was kind of grandfathered in.

I feel like the first major push towards actual non-exclusivity was only earlier this year, which is why is was a major story at the time.
