I don't see anything wrong with the picture. I mean you can call him an ******* for getting angry at people who are just trying to compliment him (in their own flawed way), but he's not wrong. With all the talent in the world he would still be a complete nobody without the hard work and dedication. There is no need to "give thanks" for his ability as some gift of god just as there is no need to be angry at god for not giving us the athleticism to be NBA athletes.

It just seems like a ridiculous idea to thank God for giving people talent as if it was a personal gift if we're not also going to blame God for all of our shortcomings as well. People are born and are often suited to different things. When someone is suited for a specific task and they also put in the tremendous amount of work to perfect their craft, great things can happen. If God is responsible for everything, I don't see the point in acknowledging it, since the only variable in the equation is free will and the person's choice to put in the work and become great at something.

The bigger size is just more of a hindrance than a help and it means that DS games and even 3DS games will probably look worse on the bigger screen.

Actually, it's quite the opposite.

You can play original DS games in 1:1 mode on the 3DS, and this eliminates the blur caused by the resolution upscaling in fullscreen mode. The problem is, this puts a border around the screen, which shrinks the viewable area to a very small size. But, on the 3DS XL's larger screens, if you use 1:1 mode, the viewable area is actually a tiny bit BIGGER than the normal DSi's screen.

tl;dr - playing an original DS game on a 3DS XL will look almost exactly the same as playing it on a DSi.

Best news ever. The two reasons I skipped out on the original model were the battery life and DS games looking crappy. so it looks like this could be a day 1 purchase for me.

Can't really say much about the secret show aspect, but I can tell you what to expect from the show. I saw the first show of their current tour at my college. It was pretty good despite a lame northwest college crowd (and being stuck in theater-style seating), but far from the best show I've seen and frankly pretty disappointing in terms of what I expect from Metric. My friends who saw them at a music festival that weekend thought it was a pretty low tier performance as well. I do feel like several of the songs they played were much better live than on album; Breathing Underwater and The Void in particular. The lighting helped a lot with that too. I was overall a bit disappointed with the concert though; I hadn't seen Metric live before but I've seen videos of previous live performances and I was let down by the lack of crowd interaction. It was also a pretty short set, especially after the 45 minute long sound check. They didn't play any old songs either; it was Synthetica straight through, with 2 Fantasies songs mixed in, and an encore of 2 more Fantasies songs. The encore was much more of what I was expecting from the show with some awesome soloing and extending the hell out of the songs.

Hmm... "disappointing" is probably how I would describe my feelings about the first time I saw them live. I remember listening to Fantasies for the first time and buying the tickets to the show no more than 15 minutes later... still one of my favourite albums of all-time. But yeah, I was not impressed in the least by their performance. The highlight was probably the acoustic version of Combat Baby which I can honestly say brought me close to tears. I'm basically listening to Synthetica on repeat right now to get more familiar with the music before I head out, but I'm happy you mentioned Breathing Underwater because it's one of the few tracks I enjoy on the album. Clone is easily my favourite, so I'll probably be satisfied if they play that.

So why are you so underwhelmed by this sheep? Are you shocked yourself that you can't seem to care? Do you feel like you should want to go but can't make yourself care somehow?

That's exactly it. It's almost like I'm expecting to have a bad time although I have no real reason to suspect such a thing. It even lined up perfectly since I work virtually every weekend but I got today off (it's later tonight) and I don't work until pretty late in the afternoon tomorrow, I just feel like I should be pretty psyched about something like this.

I honestly never thought I'd need liquor, but I'm drinking for the first time in like 6 months to get me excited for this.

And it's kind of funny that you mentioned Laura Marling, Menji. She's the next show at this venue... she;s going to be here on Wednesday.

I find it hilarious that my favourite song from high school did the worst and my favourite at this moment did the best. Alo good to see that you were exposed to "Levels" I'm still kind of shocked that it became such a huge hit with Flo-Rida vocals... I wouldn't even call it Avicii's bst song... not even his best song with added pop vocals (Seek Bromance) but whatever. I just wish he had gotten a credit on the track.

And I'm still totally bummed. I was bummed when I didn't think I won the tickets, but I got a text yesterday that telling me I got them anyways and I'm still not too excited about it. The band is Metric and I've seen them once before... decent concert, but pretty much the lamest crowd I've ever witnessed. It was probably made worse by the fact that it was a seated venue and I'm pretty sure it was an all-ages event. This one is at least 19+ at an incredible venue, but I could not be less excited for it... doesn't help that their newest album is easily my least favourite from them.

Has anyone here been to a "secret" show before? It's one of those deals where it was actually impossible to buy tickets and you had to be selected for it. I'm just wondering if these shows are typically crazier than regular ones since you have to put in some effort to get tickets.

Definitely not. Although I guess it makes sense. It was definitely a product of the time and I'm not sure I would have enjoyed the song as much if I heard it for the first time today. Man this kinda stuff happens in my town everyday. When me and the fiancee were poor the lady that runs the local grocery store gave us free bread and limes. I've had strangers buy us doughnuts for no reason other than a random act of kindness. I also have a local business owner that let me do workshops in her store back when I was stil getting my feng shui business off the ground. The local tea place gave me and a huge group of friends a free meal because it was the first day since opening she had been able to write herself a check.

Yeah this, those pictures are no doubt nice but I see random acts of kindness everyday, I've never really lost faith in humanity, in fact I love humanity much more every year.

I was going to post this when I read the topic last night, but I didn't feel like raining on anyone's parade. I really hate the term "losing faith in humanity" because I feel you actively have to ignore all the good to be able to even think that humanity is "bad" on the whole. People are generally ****ing great, and that's why it's such a big deal whenever you run into a complete *******. You definitely get what you out out though, so I can understand miserable people thinking that the world sucks.

Oh, I should mention that I write things in a way that makes me seem really invested in the topic at hand... but there isn't really much that gets me riled up. I think it's because I'm still in the mindset of having to write essays where I'm always forced to fake interest or opinion in whatever I'm writing about. I'm actually quite apathetic towards all but a few select topics, and this isn't one of them.

Eh. I've tried writing a response a couple times, but it just comes down to me not agreeing with gender roles. I don't agree or support any aspect of the idea that men or women should do anything based on their gender. As mentioned before, we're talking about facts here and there is nothing to really argue about.

I'm much more interested in the alpha argument anyways. My "problem" with what always goes on in these topics isn't with what you're saying, because again.. some of it is fact, and you can't argue against that. But I feel that an alpha in the simplest terms would be someone that knows what he wants and has the confidence, drive and ability to get it. Whether that goal is a high paying job, an attractive woman or the desire to be the best at something. I mean despite being "nerds" I'm sure we'd consider people who rise to be powerful CEOs as alpha since in today's world the term doesn't have much to do with physical presense (I assume). So what confuses me is how someone can call someone else a beta for not fulfilling a certain set of criteria when it is possible that the person in question is confidently living their life in the exact way that they want to.

I hate pretty much everything you say to be completely honest. Not because it's wrong, but because of your opinions on the facts. Like it's obvious that you've done the research and you've seen the effects, but it's just baffling to me how you think we're going in the wrong direction. I mean you can call it the feminization of men, but I just see it as people being allowed to be and do whatever the hell they want. Things might have been "cleaner" with women staying at home and men earning the wages, and there is nothing wrong with that. The problem was that women who didn't have a man to provide for them were not able to make a decent wage on their own or be independent if they wanted to. You can argue that most women would be happier staying at home taking care of kids and I don't know if I could say that you're necessarily wrong. But I think it's terrible that women didn't have the CHOICE of living the way they wanted to. If giving them options destroyed the nuclear family, I'm all for it.

Anyways to answer your questions... My parents are still together after 30 something years of marriage. I spent the most time with my mom since my dad worked during the day, but in general I'm sure I spent less time talking to my parents than most people. My family is quite close, even now that all the kids have moved out of the house, but I've always been the quiet one. I'm sure it helped to have both parents, especially financially... but as I got older it became quite clear that my parents were in a loveless marriage. It's definitely shaped my view of relationships in a very interesting way. I know I'm still young, but I honestly can't even fathom why I would ever want to be married at this point... at least in the traditional monogamous sense. But that's another view for another topic.

My mom has worked nights for as long as I can remember, although as I got old enough to apply for student loans I realized my dad actually makes a ton of money.. at least far more than average and more than both the incomes of some of my friend's parents. But my mom has always worked anyways. Now she owns her own shop and while I'm sure it contributes some stress, it's not something she really needed to do for cash, and I know she's happy doing it.

That seems like entirely too much information, but whatever.

I'd have to assume SF3 takes at least 4 spots on the list.

so is the argument "it's okay for people to occasionally be punished for crimes they didn't commit because the victims of those crimes are far more numerous?"

otherwise I'm not clear on what you're saying

It's not hard. The argument is that while both things are terrible (being raped, and being falsely accused of rape) we should not focus on false accusations because it may only work to hinder people from reporting rape, as when stories like this get big they often cause more people to look at rape accusations with suspicion which really isn't what we should be doing.

It's kind of like making a big deal about those committing welfare fraud. Sure there are some people doing it, but the number of those taking advantage of the system shouldn't be a cause to cut funding for welfare because there are still a lot of people who truly do need it.

The story is sad no doubt, but getting people to look at accusations of rape with more suspicion is literally the worst thing that could come out of this, and it is also one of the most likely.

Wicked Pictures?

That video might actually turn out to be good, which is scary to think about.

I'm pretty sure Wicked hasn't been decent since like... '99. Although I only watch g/g so I might not be the best judge of their work.

I listen to top 40 every day at work and I had no idea what it meant. It makes a lot of sense though, since the only person I knew using it was a rich club kid who's always talking about how many shows he's going to.
