What I love about Aries is how versatile he is.
I first saw him in 2009 when ROH got their HDNet TV show and I started following the company at that point, and since then I've seen him put on incredible ROH epics with guys of various sizes and styles, and now in TNA he has adjusted to the X-Division style which is much more compact and flashy and he hasn't lost a step. They said "Hey in this new spot on the card you need to do shorter matches at a higher octane" and before they finished the sentence he dropped multiple awesome matches on their doorstep. He gets over in a smark crowd, and he gets over in a mark crowd. He can play the underdog, he can play cocky heel, and he can play cowardly heel. He's got it all. -- Thank you, Eddie Guerrero. http://www.wwe.com/f/styles/photo_large/public/photo/image/2012/04/WM28_Photo_255.jpg |

That's a good way to put it. That would probably explain why he hasn't had any great matches, but also hasn't bottomed out (because he's been around for so long and worked with so many great workers that even he can do a ** match by default now [well...if he's lucid enough to know he's in a wrestling ring]).

The sad thing too is that Angle doing crazy s*** off of the top of the cage actually fits in perfectly and logically with the angle that this feud started on, that Kurt is jealous that his son is a bigger fan of Jeff Hardy than him, and he wants to prove that he's better.

At face value, Angle saying this would be akin to, say, Jericho promising Match of the Year against The Miz. Miz isn't BAD or anything, he's just not a MotY kinda guy. And like I said, I'm more worried about the subtext here of Angle making promises for a great match followed immediately by "I pray to God I don't hurt myself more," and what that implies. -- Thank you, Eddie Guerrero. http://www.wwe.com/f/styles/photo_large/public/photo/image/2012/04/WM28_Photo_255.jpg |

Kurt Angle sez:
"In pro wrestling, you can work around your injuries and still have a great, awesome match. But this cage match is very dangerous. I am facing Jeff Hardy. He's a high flyer. We're going to do a lot of crazy stuff in this match. I pray to God I don't further injure my injuries anymore. But I am brave enough, and maybe I'm stupid, but I want the fans to say, 'That was the best match I saw all year.' That's hard to say when you have Triple H and Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match. But Jeff Hardy and I are capable of having just as good of a match as Undertaker and Triple H." Because I love AJ, I will repost her Twitter speech she just made about remembering where she came from and her outlook on life, because it's awesome.
A.J. @WWEAJLee In Newark Airport. I remember flying out of here 3 years ago headed to a tryout camp at FCW that I literally starved to afford to pay for. I just sat here praying I would come back with a contract so I could make my lifelong dream come true, and be able to take care of my family in the process. Now I'm in the same airport, headed overseas with the WWE. Moments like this and last night remind me of how lucky and blessed I am. I've gone from being homeless for years to being given the most amazing opportunities in the job of my dreams. Moral of the the story, anything on earth is possible. If it goes away tomorrow, I will be grateful for every second. But if I have it my way, I will do this until I am Mae Young. Just had a rare sincere moment in me I needed to get out. I'm a big believer in the Rule of Three when it comes to monster debuts.
1st time to inroduce the character. 2nd time to establish the pattern of expectations. 3rd time SOMETHING happens to alter the expectation, be it a post-match challenge, or the jobber actually winning, or a backstage encounter after the squash or really anything to change things up moving forward. I like what they're doing with Tensai more than Ryback, because Ryback is winning too quickly. He's not even out there long enough to implant himself in your mind, and he's not given any chance to establish a character. Tensai is memorable, has a gimmick, and he has the awesome Poison Claw afterwards. That being said, they've both hit 2 squashes with no advancement, so I'm fine with that, and now let's see something happen next week to give them direction. -- Thank you, Eddie Guerrero. http://www.wwe.com/f/styles/photo_large/public/photo/image/2012/04/WM28_Photo_255.jpg |
