I find it interesting that CHIKARA has this newfound relationship with ROH that seemingly will extend beyond the Synergy event later this month, but yet at the same time they've already announced a partnership with DGUSA/EVOLVE and CZW to do a mega cross-promotional tri-indie-fed extravaganza next year for WM weekend.

The Colony vs. Ophidian/Los Ice Creams should air on the weekend of May 12th/13th.

I also think that would be a horrible way to have fun at a wrestling show but I can admit that this is a personal preference.

I just don't see how you can hope to engross yourself in the show if you're constantly waiting for the next situation to stand up and mimic the official.

Both of those things are supporting someone who isn't involved when they're chanting (most of the time at least) and drowning out whoever is; they're doing way, WAY more to "put themselves ahead of the performers" than people showing up dressed oddly or with odd signs.


I disagree. They're trying to put ANOTHER performer ahead of the current performer. They're not doing it for individual attention. Now they may be doing it to seem "cool" to those around them, but they're not trying to get noticed. No one remembers who was chanting something if a large group is doing it, just that a large group was doing it.

These ref guys just want attention, and I guess I'm in the same boat as edwards on this one because I just don't "get" why what they're doing is supposedly funny.

I would say that Punk vs. Cena even taken completely at face value didn't have as much weight. The integrity of the WWE and its premiere Championship was on the line at Money in the Bank, but they definitely seem to present the Streak and what it meant to Undertaker and what defeating Undertaker meant to Triple H as weightier than all that.

It goes beyond what the company and its title represent moving forward, and instead tells the story of what the careers of these three men mean and what their legacies will be forever.

Well my thing is for a match to truly be great and 5 stars it has to be the kind of thing that like 30 years from now you look back and still say "now that was match!" And be able to follow the story with no real prior knowledge of the workers. Of the 4 I think only Hbk/Taker 2 has that. maybe.


And I don't think any match in history has that.

Have you ever SEEN newer fans discuss Flair/Steamboat or Savage/Steamboat without really UNDERSTANDING them?

It's depressing in a way, but it also elucidates the need of ANY match for context. WWE matches are built off of storylines. AJPW matches have psychology built on top of their previous encounters. No matches exist in a vacuum.

If you're saying that it needs to be a match that YOU saw in context at the time that YOU will look back on 30 years later and still love, then my apologies because I generally agree with that.

No, although maybe we're defining weight differently. I mean it more in the terms of stakes. HBK vs. Taker 1 was just a phenomenal match between two guys who both desperately wanted to win. Part Two obviously had more weight with HBK's career on the line--the whole thing was a lot more urgent. Trips vs. Taker 1 didn't necessarily have stakes per se, but it carried the weight of Triple H's own personal pride and inferiority complex needing him to succeed where HBK failed, at any cost.

And then HHH vs. Taker 2 probably had more weight than any match since Survivor Series 2001.

It's funny because I thought the Taker/HBK consensus was WM25 > 26, but I've seen more and more people who think the opposite.


I thought it from the start. I LOVED Taker/HBK 1 but to me it just doesn't carry the same weight as #2.

Heck, Trips/Taker 1 even carries more weight than HBK/Taker 1, it just wasn't as good in execution.

Speaking of NXT, I really enjoyed the brief Maxine/Bateman interaction. They did a great job with just a few lines of realistically acting like exes who have moved on but aren't COMPLETELY over each other. It was the most subtle thing I've seen in WWE in a long time.

Obviously some jokes would need to be excluded or carefully made, but I don't think Johnny Curtis's gimmick is a dead end.


The fact that they cut McGillicutty taunting Tyson Kidd by sniffing Natalya's underwear from NXT this week really showed me the limits of Curtis's gimmick. :-(

EDIT: Although the more I think about it, the more I think the gimmick is strengthened by restraint and the power of suggestion.

But how much would WWE be willing to suggest if he was on a main show. <_<

His gimmick is AWESOME but it's a dead-end in WWE. They already have to tiptoe around actually using the word "rape van" enough with him on a show the censors don't even watch. <_<

His perverted creeper gimmick could actually flourish in TNA. A modern day completely hetero Orlando Jordan.

Anyway we got way off track.

NXT rules but a new season of NXT with the best FCW guys would rule even harder, so if I'm Johnny Curtis I don't pick up my phone next week.

It would be kind of ironic for WWE to be the ones to finally bring the world Lashley vs. Lesnar after Strikeforce and UFC both had the opportunity to.
