If you want to give them TONS OF CREDIT you could say that this is yet another "reality era" angle, where it's intentionally obvious that they are trying to censor the crowd's love of Bryan in order to build anti-establishment loyalty for him.

Even I'm not entirely comfortable positing that theory though.

I never thought Consequences Creed was honestly that good in TNA. I mean, he was pretty good, but never great. In FCW, he's great. He's got the WWE style down and knows how to really show off. I dunno, I just think going to FCW has really been better for him.

Oh I agree that he probably NEEDED the time in developmental. I'm just saying that it's kinda funny.

Good enough for a title in TNA = Needs 2 years of training in WWE

Oh...looking at the spoilers for next week, the Gut Check where new guys can tryout for a roster spot is an OVW showcase it seems, finally making use of them as a developmental territory.

How odd considering that ROH's TV show ("Smokey Mountain of Honor" according to Austin Aries) often showcases OVW guys too due to the Cornette connection.

I'm a little confused about TNA Open Fight Night.

So it'll happen once a month and it has these components:

1.) An outside talent coming in for a "tryout match" to be judged by Hogan and his goons.

2.) Anyone who is challenged to a match has to fight.

3.) Any CHAMPION who is challenged MIGHT be defending their title, based on Hogan's whim.

Basically I don't really get the title challenge part. The TV Title will be defended every week now (for now <_<), so on Open Fight Night it'll basically just be an Open Challenge instead of defended against a vetted contender. Simple enough. Got that part.

But what about the rest of the Champions? I feel like this will just totally screw with PPV builds, since you can't really build to a PPV defense if the title is in doubt based on Open Challenges in the interim. The only way I can really see it working well would be if, in the future, the monthly Open Fight Night is the first week following the PPV.

Definitely an interesting concept, to be sure. I just want more details and to get a better grasp of the logic behind it.

The "outside talent" thing is a pretty great chance if it means some indie guys can get a showcase, although with WWE Spring Cleaning right around the corner, the pessimist in me wonders if the timing isn't a little too coincidental. <_<

Also LOL @ RVD still complaining that he never lost the World Title despite losing multiple World Title shots since then.

Just finished NXT. I have to imagine that all the roster trimming that took place was to free up some room for some fresh FCW talent!

Well who knows if Reks and Hawkins actually got "trimmed" or if it's a Cena-esque firing where they don't even miss a week. Titus and Young are moving on up though!

Also, bigger stretch of logic: a kidnapped Matt Striker gets replaced by a stunt double on the other shows for three weeks, or Curtis and Maxine actually spending a week handcuffed together without finding a way out of it?

Ruthless Aggression.

Toothless Aggression Era!

Get the F Out Era!

I've always hated the "Ruthless Aggression" term because it meant NOTHING. "New Generation" meant something. "Attitude" meant something. "Ruthless Aggression" was something they said sometimes that had no actual bearing on the product.

I like Postwar Era for the timeframe between WM 17 and WM 21 because it encapsulates what the Era was about: transitioning from the time of war to the time of empire, and tying up all the loose ends from the war itself, before the company finally moved forward with a new cadre of stars.

I don't know if I really like this "Reality Era" term. I also don't really believe we have entered into a new era for professional wrestling in the United States so that might be part of it.

We're due for one (and really we go by WWE eras, not all-encompassing eras)! To draw some potentially absurdly hard lines in the sand, the Hogan Era lasted 8 years, the New Generation went 5 years, the Attitude Era and then the Postwar Era both went 4 each.

Then at WM 21 we entered the Cena Era, for lack of a better term. Some people call it the "PG Era," but I find that to be a misnomer. PG didn't come about until mid-2008 and it didn't really change the product all that much.

WM 21 was 7 years ago, so you could say that we're 7 years into the Cena Era and that it's about to surpass the Hogan Era in length, but I disagree. I think history will bear out that the next Era began the night The Rock came back last year, which is close enough to WM that we might just say "WM 27" for simplicity's sake, and end the Cena Era at a solid 6 year length of time.

"Reality Era" might not end up being the accepted term (heck, the Postwar Era and Cena Era have no accepted term), but it's the best we have for the moment. The Metatextual Era? The Twitter Era?

On that note, what's a better name for the Cena Era?

Well yeah, we know their pitching sucks. A manager at most will have probably a +/- 5-7 wins on their team. If even that. However, Bobby V is just terrible, I don't understand why they hired him the first place. He was never a good manger, he wasn't a good analyst either.

Stupid hire all around.

They say on Tigers broadcast that the runner-up was our third base coach Gene LaMont.

Oh totally. I felt so bad for Joe and Magnus and the Guns. THAT is where the TV Title nonsense goes. Gives the post Lethal Lockdown emotional crowd a chance to wind down with a joke of a match where they can cheer on cruise-control for Devon to beat silly old Robbie E.

I really think they just looked at the tentpole matches of Lethal Lockdown, Angle vs. Hardy, and Roode vs. Storm, and wanted to properly separate those three, and counting all 5 other matches as interchangeable.

Just caught up through Lockdown and Raw.

Raw was REALLY good, especially given that the UK shows are often somewhat throwaway since they aren't live. Punk vs. Henry was very good, and Cena did a fantastic job selling us on Brock Lesnar and who he is (much better than Brock did!).

Lockdown was a solid show that was Exhibit A in Bad Match Order. It's like they specifically said "How can we arrange these matches so that the crowd is the most dead for the whole show?"

KO Tag in between Angle/Hardy and Roode/Storm was the only thing they did right, really.

That kinda reminds me of that one move AJ Styles does, where he moonsaults into an Inverted DDT, but he always lands on his feet first with the guy in position and then does the drop. I don't get it.

Unless there's some thread in the match where AJ wants to do an inverted DDT on his opponent but his opponent is just so good at blocking it that AJ has to find a creative way to hit it, then it might work. But you don't see a match like that very often!

You know, the more I think about it the more I wonder why Aksana got called up.

She plays "ditzy foreign girl" and "manipulative foreign gold digger" well enough but they already ran those angles into the ground.

She's the WORST wrestler on the current roster.

She's obviously very attractive, but relative to the other Divas I would say she's below average.

You hear those rumors that some Divas only have a job because they do sexual favors for Laurinaitis, and I'm starting to think maybe pairing her with Teddy Long is a giant rib, so people backstage can have a laugh when they do segments where Johnny scoffs at Teddy for allowing such shenanigans to happen.

what about the knockout tag titles.

Any title formerly held by Lacey Von Erich REALLY has some uphill climbing to do.

Any title whose lineage includes "Kevin Nash defeats AJ Styles" has a lot of uphill climbing to do

That's because Jericho's been given the meatier material, and Punk is really just reactionary. He had a good diatribe towards Jericho early in the feud though.

I give Punk tons of credit for being the biggest natural on the mic in the company (aside from Rock). He says what he means, he says it with conviction, and he sounds like he's speaking to us off the cuff instead of reciting lines he or someone else came up with earlier (which even Rock is guilty of but gets away with it because of his stronger charisma).

Aries is better on the mic than Bryan. Not that Bryan's not good.

And yeah, I can agree that Punk is probably the best "total package" right now, but when I phrased the question I really just meant it as "the guy that's week-in week-out putting on the best matches over relatively recent history"

I'm more counting in-ring product than "total package," although part of that is the charismatic ability to manipulate the crowd through wrestling. I'm not really counting pure "promo ability" though, per se.

Bryan is probably the most TALENTED wrestler in the world, they just don't give him a chance to show it off much.

Aries is out there stealing the show every other week for the last 10 months. TNA has given him the opportunity that WWE hasn't given Bryan, despite having been World Champion.

Jericho still has to re-prove himself after his comeback. He's clearly still VERY GOOD, I just want more evidence that he's still ELITE.

I still like Generico better than Steen. Generico would be my (not 100% educated) choice for Best on the Indies right now.

I've seen maybe like 5 and I don't even remember them.

I'll get to them eventually. I add one thing to follow to my fandom per year. 2008 it was TNA, 2009 ROH, 2010 CHIKARA, 2011 local indy CLASH Wrestling, 2012 it'll be DGUSA when I get around to it.
