Yes, the game itself is always constant, but the voters are the ones that determine strength. And since the voters fluctuate in preference, the games get stronger or weaker at time. So I can't agree with your statement.

SotN is 64th, which is crazy high for a 4-5 game.

The best I can give you thats below SotN is a few 6-3 titles. But 7-2 Civilization IV is 63rd and SotN is very close to eclipsing it. (Of course, Civ IV has one of the weakest schedules in the contest, while SotN's SoS is #1)

t's kind of like if UNC picked up a loss in one of those early-season tournaments to, I don't know, Butler or something, but then they're still there with just the 1 loss halfway through the season. They're probably still going to be ranked ahead of Butler even if the Bulldogs are undefeated, because they're f***ing North Carolina and they're playing all of the best teams.

Except, in this example, CT is an undefeated Duke to SMB3's one loss North Carolina, that one loss acquired when Duke beat North Carolina head-to-head. Thus, your logic is flawed. Now if the #1 game was something out of left field without a huge pedigree, like Portal, then it would work as a Butler swap.
