russia started a war of aggression by invading ukraine and is currently still waging a genocidal war in ukraine. peace is prefferable, but anything less than russia fully withdrawing would just be appeasement bullshit that already failed in ukraine and has historically always failed in geopolitics.

ukraine is a sovereign nation and their position is that any peace will require full russian withdrawl from all occupied territory.

appeasement didnt work when neville chamberlain tried it and it didnt work when the world let russia take the crimea. russia will just rebuild its forces and invade again if their illegal war isnt crushed in its tracks.

if ukraine is willing to fight for the survival of their nation and autonomy the world should be willing to support them in every material way possible. if russia is allowed to take what they want both recent and world history has shown that they will just move on to the next thing they covet and start the process over again

i think its naive to expect a gop pivot at this point even with another loss. the mcconnell types are almost all gone, which is a double edged sword. those types hate trump and trumpism, but they are much more competent than the clowcar cultists and mostly responsible for the erosion of the judiciary. if the gop takes the senate (which is unfortunately almost certain), i fully expect more oaths of fealty to the cult. we have to take back the house and hold the executive.

mandatory national service is absurd, but i think it would be a great idea for countries to give it as an option to anyone turning 18-21 in ways besides military service. if we could have an fdr style public works we could really help rebuild infastructure and give jobs to people that need them who are entering adulthood

unions as a whole are definitely good and have improved society for average people a helluva lot. like with anything you can find anecdotal examples of union corruption or misdeeds, but that is applicable to anything ever. without unions workers would have much less rights and have to work in much worse conditions

there will always be examples of shit people benefiting from unions, but they are a needed layer of protection for people that have an astronomical power disadvantage compared to corporations. for every bad union anecdote you have 1000 examples of positive things and geniune progress in society
