the us is thankfully not at the same level as weimar germany in '33, but our institutions are under attack and have been for decades. the trumpian gop has constantly been trying to undermine our system and has dismantled some of the checks against tyranny, with the main problem being saddling us with an extremist activist scotus.

if trump wins he wont be able to crush all opposition via an enabling act type decree since congress is far too deadlocked to go for that, but he will use the broad powers of the executive to kill his own criminal charges and those of his allies. he would continue packing the federal judiciary with extremist activists. a trump win wouldnt be the immediate end of american democracy, but it could be the beginning of the end and it would do even more irreversible damage to our institutions and (equally importantly) would validate any future fascists by telling them the public doesnt care about any norms if they just play the right grievance politics and continue disenfranchising people they dont like.

this election is dire and is a referendum on democracy and the rule of law. we cant afford even more naked lunatics on federal courts for decades and certainly cant afford an even more unbalanced scotus. we cant afford more agencies packed with anti government stooges who want to dismantle much needed things like the fda/irs/post office.

trump is the human embodiment of a cancer with 'cancer' tattooed across his forehead. if he is elected after being the worst potus since reconstruction and an open criminal and traitor there will be no hope of improvement as the gop will see it as a mandate to keep killing voting rights and womens bodily autonomy.
