Wait, was abortion illegal in the UK before this? Oh boy! UK abortion law is weird. Rather than just legalise it normally the 1967 and then 1990 acts that effectively legalised abortion in the UK provided exemptions to the 1861 act which made it legal on any grounds with two doctors agreement (also no limit on how many doctors you can ask so de facto legal on request) up to 24 weeks (the latest in Europe) and in certain situations after. So its a weird case where it is both legalised and not, because so much of British lawmaking is amending centuries old laws. You could technically be convicted if you had an abortion outside of these laws, though this only happened to three women in 160 years. However, in 2022 there was a sudden spike in prosecutions so now theres a push to get rid of the law. The current requirements would stay the same but abortion would be fully decriminalised so no women could be prosecuted for having an abortion. As for how this can happen with the UKs current right wing government that couldnt organise a piss-up in a brewery, the amendment is being brought forward by Labour and I believe convention gives MPs a free vote on abortion, so enough Tories will vote for or abstain to let it pass through. The survey in the article shows half of the Tories supporting and half opposing while basically all of Labour support. Small parties such as the Lib Dems and SNP will all vote for too, except for Northern Irelands DUP who are nuts. So itll pass easily. Im not sure this is accurate? I mean I dont think reviewers were worshipping at the altar of mainstream appeal any more than they were before. If anything it got better, reviews from that period were part of what allowed smaller critical darlings like Braid to break through. I mean it was a time when the most popular console of the generation was straight up rejected by large parts of the industry. Doesnt really fit. To my knowledge there was never a known case of a review from a significant publication directly being bought, though there was pressure put on outlets by publishers like the Kane & Lynch fiasco. This was common practice before that generation, and got better during. On the other hand its worse now because of influencers. There is of course no excuse for the shameful anti-Japanese sentiment of that era, which was unfortunately spread across the whole industry from devs to even the audience. Lastly Bioshock Infinite is a game that came out and got a gradual backlash with time, the audience and critical reception were the same at launch. Not really the fault of reviewers. I dont know, I think its much worse now with media companies dying left and right, look at Vice right now. Or the 90s when all these issues were worse and you didnt have the people doing actual journalistic work that you did later on. Anyway: Undertale Super Mario Bros Minecraft Super Smash Bros Ultimate I only feel super strongly about the first two. Undertale has easily the most recognisable video game music track of the 21st century, has the most views on Youtube and was played for the pope. Super Mario Bros defined how modern soundtracks worked. After that Minecraft music seems super popular with a wider audience, the full soundtrack has 48 million views on Youtube. Lastly Smash Ultimate is there as a giant love letter to video game music in general. Edit: Oh I guess Smash Ultimate falls afoul of the rules, so Donkey Kong Country 2 then but I am nit adamant about it. --- I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh azuarc |

I watched a bit of the first episode, it was okay. Production quality was excellent (especially the costumes), most of the cast was good, liked the expansions on the story but some of the dialogue was not good. Not remotely comparable to the Shyamalan film, but inessential unless you literally refuse to ever watch an animated show.

Open world games are capable of having tremendous linear content, and non-open world games are capable of being dull and repetitive. Look at last year, Tears of the Kingdom was extremely open yet had some of the best set pieces of all time, while FFXVI was not and had some of the most mindnumbingly boring quest and encounter design in a recent major release.
Anyway, this game sounds incredible, I am not going to read any of these reviews though because I sure some will reveal too much. I think Giant Bomb will do a special Bombcast today about the game though, Ill listen to that. --- I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh azuarc |

According to Wikipedia, EEnE is CN's longest-running standalone original series, so that's gotta be worth something. Tbf this either seems to be counting the release of the two unreleased DVD episodes and/or the TV movie and not counting any of Adventure Times specials which is very dodgy or arguing that the short disqualifies Adventure Time. But it was the longest running for a decade, its original run lasted eight years. The finale was a big hit because the first half was really good. The latter half sucked out all of the enthusiasm people had for the show, though. It definitely feels less important than it did when the ending was up in the air. I gotta respectfully disagree! Aside from episode 8 the second half of the season still got super good reviews. I know IMDB is not the best but all except that one are above a 9, and the finale is one of the highest rated episodes of the whole show. Anyway: Dexters Laboratory Ed, Edd, n Eddy Samurai Jack Adventure Time Of these I feel strongest about Adventure Time. It resurrected Cartoon Network originals after the disastrous second half of the 2000s, became their longest running (and probably most popular) show ever, launched a whole era of prestige cartoons for both children and adults, and started a franchise that still continues to this day. Its also really damn good. Next is Ed, Edd, n Eddy. This was the longest running show before Adventure Time (some say it still holds the record and theyre wrong lol) and was an absolutely huge hit. After that Dexters Lab works as the early 90s rep. Samurai Jack is probably the weakest of these but its still possibly the best thing theyve ever done and when they brought it back it did extremely well so it deserves it I think. --- I just decided to change this sig. However, it would also cost more as they would be localising from scratch while EarthBound Beginnings was not only fully translated but they printed cartridges. Reggie straight up said that if the Wii U had done better and stuck around they would have brought over Mother 3. However the Switch replaced it, didnt have GBA emulation for years and is now nearing the end of its life.
I feel like, eventually, the game will release outside of Japan. The market for it is much better now than it was in 2006. However who knows how many years it will take. It also might not be original Mother 3 but a full remake maybe. --- I just decided to change this sig. Blaaaaaaargh azuarc |
