Frostcrag Spire pretty easily, especially in the remaster where you can see it from much further away. I just enjoy hurtling down the mountain every single time I go somewhere, and it has all the amenities I'd want. I don't particularly care about it not feeling homely or whatever.

Yeah, stepping out of the sewers for the first time and seeing Frostcrag clear as day perched on the northern mountains was a real treat. This is especially true after spending years console modding Skyrim and having to turn down LOD versions of textures and housing mods because it eats too much into free space.

^The_Korey was probably referring to Rosethorn in Skingrad, which also lets you hire a maid. I say 'probably' since not everyone would've purchased the DLC houses at the time; especially Battlehorn, which came out at the extreme ass-end of Oblivion's post-release lifespan, to the point where I was genuinely shocked when it dropped because I was sure they were done with the game at that point.

It's honestly a tough call between X-Men and Spider-Man. X-Men came first and was the dividing line between the limits of purely practical effects and the possibilities that digital effects opened up, but Spider-Man was the bigger box-office hit by almost triple the amount; and they both came out within a close enough window that you could easily split the credit between them being the progenitors of the modern superhero blockbuster.

Yeah, it makes me appreciate all the later Bethesda games that I'm always trashing more. The dungeons are just as copy-pasted in the new games but there's usually more to each one, either just in the form of some basic lore or in the form of unique loot.

I remember an early cave in Morrowind where you run into an Argonian slavery operation... now I'm wondering, was that a unique discovery in Morrowind? I never really saw anything like that in Oblivion.

Back in the day when I was trying to convince people that yes, Skyrim put a bit more work into its dungeons to give many of them at least a touch of uniqueness over Oblivion, I think I counted a grand total of 4 dungeons in the entirety of Cyrodiil that had some form of unique gimmick or self-contained story (and weren't quest related): Vilverin, Rockmilk Cave, Goblin Jim's Cave, and I've forgotten the 4th one.

Shivering Isles bumps up the numbers a little with Fain, Ebrocca, Dire Warrens, and possibly another one I'm forgetting.

EDIT: just remembered the 4th one, which is Lost Boy Cavern. Which is kinda bad on my part since I just did that dungeon a couple days ago.

I've said this before, but for all Bethesda's shortcomings in the writing department, they did a pretty decent job giving the Empire vs. Stormcloaks issue enough layers that people are still debating it to this day.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure that last person to defend the Blades in the Blades vs. Paarthurnax dilemma was driven off this site in shame sometime in early 2012.

Arkham Asylum and City are two games that I loved when I played them, but have never gone back and given them a replay. I should fix that sometime.

City took the crown back in the day simply because Asylum's boss fights fuckin' suuuuuucked; most were just rehashes of the first Bane fight, the 'encounter' with Killer Croc was a major letdown, and Harley's fight was so annoying that I wanted to chew my own foot off just so I'd have something besides my controller to throw at the screen. Meanwhile in City the Mr. Freeze fight was legendary, you had surprise encounters with Solomon Grundy and Clayface, and the Joker fight was much more what I wanted out of Joker fight, which was him pretty much being just a normal guy sending waves and waves of goons at you.

And I know open world gameplay is automatically treated as a negative these days, but it really lent itself a sense of self-discovery in City that I didn't get out of Asylum; okay, lemme follow a clue to this uninhabited part of town and holy shit I'm suddenly in a Mad Hatter dreamworld! There were also little touches in the open world that made you feel like Batman which wouldn't have been feasible in the more enclosed Asylum setting, like the knocking on the door to Penguin's club and watching the bouncer piss himself as soon as he sees who's on the other side.

Honestly, I had no interest in any of the games that came after because I knew the chances were slim to nil that City would ever be topped.

Related, I like when the "fair fight"/proper rules guy realizes that's stupid and learns to fight pragmatically. This was done very well in the final fight of s-CRY-ed. Ryuho talks shit about a low class opponent throwing dirt in the first episode, but ends up doing it to that very same opponent in the last. It's a unique way to show respect. Respect and rage.

I think my first experience with the trope was an old Dragonlance prequel where Raistlin and Caramon are employed in a mercenary company. This is half-remembered at best, but iirc the merc company boss was a dwarf or other race of diminutive stature, and at the climax of the story the villain leader challenges him to a one-on-one duel - the merc boss accepts, instantly clubs the villain in the kneecap, and lets his men hack him to pieces.

Do I keep Umbra or nah? I'm getting conflicting answers on whether it's worth it on higher levels or not.

It just depends on which one you think you'll get more use out of. Umbra is the strongest one-handed weapon in the game in terms of base damage, so if you favor swords, keep it; on the other hand, the enchantment's not very useful, and you can get more damage output from other weapons with strong damage enchantments. The Masque isn't very useful enchantment-wise, but it is rather cool and unique-looking - I used to rock it with a suit of Blackwood armor.

I'd say just keep the quest active so you can keep the sword for zero weight, but you have to complete all Daedric Shrine quests in some way shape or form to get Hermaeus Mora's quest. Still, you can put off completing the Vile quest for as long as you want until you're ready to do the Mora quest.

I could never really get into TSWSM due to it being my first exposure to the specific brand of 'woman in the fridge' trope where the lead actress is killed off at the start of the sequel because the writers don't know what else to do with her after our hero has 'won' her. Like, I get it: it's a comedy, it's playing off the disposable Bond Girl trope, etc. But in spite of everything, Austin and Vanessa's relationship did end up feeling genuine by the end of the first movie, and I was really looking forward to seeing how it would develop in the sequel. For all of the faults present in Kingsman: Golden Circle, they put a much better spin on the Bond Girl trope.

TSWSM definitely had its moments, though. Rob Lowe as Young No. 2 was an inspired choice. Love the ad-lib when Dr. Evil is hitting him with the inflatable globe; he was supposed to grab it and hit Dr. Evil back, but he broke down laughing in the middle of the scene and covered it up by fake-crying.

I think the one quality for making it onto a villainy Rushmore (or any category of Rushmore, for that matter) is that the character has to be instantaneously recognizable by even the most oblivious, pop-uncultured member of the general public. No one on the planet who's ever even glanced at a TV wouldn't immediately recognize Vader or the Wicked Witch; Joker too, but again that might be highly dependent on which version is used.

I had my first experience with enemies that have Spell Reflection the other day.

Tried to use Mehrune's Razor on a Lich, the death effect triggered, and the Lich went "no u" and I keeled over on the spot.

Oh yeah, that's always a fun one lol.

I swear though that Remaster drastically toned down the number of Dremora who use Spell Reflection. When I played the OG game recently it seemed like every other jackass Dremora I ran into was either absorbing my spells or bouncing them back on me, but it seems like a much rarer occurrence in Remaster.

And I can now see why Silence was taken out of Skyrim, and for good reason. Granted, magic is severely overpowered in Oblivion compared to melee and archery, but neither of those have a counter-effect that shuts them down completely the way Silence does to pure mage builds, and way too many enemy types spam it (not to mention that all Bandits and blunt-wielders will inherently use it at higher levels due to Remaster's change to the Blunt perk system).

Antivaxxers don't make any damn sense to me. There are plenty of things wrong with the modern medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies specifically, but the existence of vaccines isn't one of them. Preventing serious illness is far better and less costly than treating it.

Apart from being generally stupid and fearful of things they don't fully understand, they're quite ironically spoiled by living all or most of their lives in a world that has been made exponentially safer by vaccines. They don't see the value in vaccines because they've never truly experienced the pain and suffering of living in a world without them.

And the same could be said of any government service that the Trump regime is slashing; the people cheering them on take for granted things like infrastructure maintenance and functioning agencies like the National Weather Service and FAA, and aren't capable of fathoming how bad their lives will get once those things are gone.

Yeah, in any given Bethesda game all NPCs scale accordingly with difficulty changes, including followers and summons.

That's why if you're having trouble keeping an NPC alive for an escort mission or anything similar, it's typically beneficial to raise the difficulty so that they can tank more hits.

The Omega superboss was first introduced in FFV (later added to earlier games via rerelease), and the Ultima Weapon (both sword and boss versions) were introduced in FFVI; both UW's carried over to FFVII, but strangely enough, visually the boss used a modified version of the Demon (Poltergeist) boss from VI instead of the original UW model, a design choice that carried over into FFVIII (which also introduced the "Omega Weapon" variant), and largely into Final Fantasy X. Entries after that brought back the Omega superboss that was far closer to the original quadripedal robot design.
