I didn't sit down and watch Robocop until I was well into my 30's, and it quickly became one of my favorite 80's action movies for two key reasons:
1) the Robocop theme
2) Emil's 'meltdown'

To use a similar example, we've had fully-functioning jetpacks since the 1960's. They're just wildly impractical on a number of levels. And like others have said, there's no urgency to drive innovation because, even if you got over the technical limitations and mass-produced them, the actual consumer pool will inevitably be very low; everyone thinks they want jetpacks and flying cars, but give them a chance to think it over and your average citizen will quickly realize how ridiculously dangerous and undesirable such things would be to own and operate.

Has anything good come from "reviving old classics" in Hollywood?

Scarface immediately comes to mind. Mel Gibson's Payback is a remake of Lee Marvin's Point Blank, and Payback is considered by some to the be the better one (I'm on the fence, since I liked both in their own ways).

There's a lot of other modern classics that are remakes of older-gen movies (though I can't think of any more off the top of my head since I haven't thought about the subject in years). Thing of it is that the internet's collective brain isn't geared to remember the 'good' remakes as being remakes, since the newer version tends to make the old obsolete (assuming most people even knew that the original existed).

"Psh, what a waste of money, that state's a lost cause anyway!"

Please remember that one of the key reasons Crist didn't stand a chance against DeSantis was that Crist's campaign was flat broke for almost a month leading up to the election, and DeSantis had pots of money to throw around on local community outreach.
