man, there wasn't any shade or reference in this. they're cool toys and i figure most of us are fans of the source material in some way or another, that's it.

happy meals have apparently been doing this a bit in recent times - last year they did a Sanrio x Yugioh one last year that was honestly amazing and i missed out on. whatever era happy meals having crappy toys had, it's certainly not the one today when they put in effort.

Mr Garrison as trump was great and a pretty reflection for term 1 back then. incompetent, wild ideas, couldn't lose if he tried, but amusingly would lose when he did. a solid entertaining factor in how batshit crazy he was. AI Trump only happened in the first episode and i hope we get more, for now it's Saddam. the idea of mocking AI protections by tiny dick trump was just brilliant with it.

but like... south park's a satire. and it gets really, really hard to write satire when reality one ups you again and again. they've already done a good job with one half of things, so now they just gotta go waaaay past everything now to find where that funny ground is again.

yeah alright, in the end basically DK's got 2-3 forms (elephant, kong, maybe snake) that are relevant here. all comes down to the fact that while squall's a mid to close range fighter, DK's a close to mid range fighter now. if the terrain's destructible for DK, that's just some ranged boulders; if someone's behind a wall DK can just charge punch through it and a ton more at a small distance; if he needs to move around quick and cover vertical distance, he can just go to other forms and do that too. so highly mobile monkey that can do a lot.

if the terrain lent itself to more range tactics and if squall was more prone to that, maybe. as is? the dude's mainly a melee fighter. his best bet is killing DK once, then run into a problem where the monkey who just had a sword in him just fully healed, transformed, and put a hole in his chest. donkey kong

nah that's not how this looks like at all.
real-time environment, FMV sequence. in other words, if DK is dying, he's dying. he's bleeding, he's injured, he's got broken bones, he's exhausted, etc. all of that goes away after death and he's at 100% again.

not falling over isn't better for squall, it's worse.

negative status effect is absolutely harming. doesn't say damaged, doesn't say killed, says harm.

i wouldn't call that doubling his base health because that kinda takes away what that power is and continuing on through whatever he's doing would fit in a cutscene style fight anyway.

he's in a fight, he takes a bunch of hits because he's a tank, and keeps going through that.
at a certain point he will be hit with a fatal attack - something strong enough to finally kill him. at that point he just... magically is fully restored and none of the damage up to this point mattered. all the wounds and injuries gone, dude's just at full strength again.

that's a pretty significant thing over "doubling base health" because why on earth would anyone expect THAT to be something you just do. if it's something enough to kill him once it can kill him again, sure. but nobody would reasonably expect that and it's a pretty fucky power to play with when you know it doesn't matter if you die once, you just gotta get close enough.

but the second life is a huge deal to sleep on since he can legit just get close, die, and punch squall's head off in kong form and i'm not sure what's stopping that.

as it stands, i think the only companies with happy talents are 1) hololive for those who know the priority is idol shit first, vtubing second, and 2) phase connect. who, ironically, has some of the most batshit talent in a collection of broken women but it just works out.

had to pick thief for the 4th because you always run one, in every game. Myrmidon is probably 5th because dodging is too good but you still need to open locked doors, still need treasure chests, and for that will always run one. eventual Assassin/Rogue promotion just helps cement that. they also tend to be pretty memorable and an early character for the team.

that... is a lot of time spent focusing on the injury but it doesn't look like a work. way too much time and too much talking and the finish just doesn't have LA Knight happy despite the fact that he just beat Rollins clean in the match. if he's actually injured that really sucks for him and i don't know where the stable goes exactly; the leader being out on a 3 man team is pretty fucking bad.

DQ5 gets in for that impact rationale too; sure it's a great game but so are MGS5, Persona 5, and DMC5. no, DQ5 gets included because in addition to being a major game of that time period, Pokemon was directly inspired by it.

okay FGO is just a monster in and of itself. the only gacha game that can get away with its bullshit.

my main ones are Arknights and Nikke, the former just straight up is a fantastic game and the gacha mechanics aren't extreme, it's just a regular game for me there. Nikke i drop every so often because sometimes the gacha stuff is overwhelming. technically i did play through GFL2 for a while but dropped it along the way, same issue.

FGO i dropped a while ago because i cannot understand how it's still successful when it's so slow and the extreme amount it was behind is only really relevant to stupid mechanical changes that it should've had to begin with.

this one seems interesting so i'll give it a shot. maybe it'll be as relevant as the SMT gacha, played that for a couple months before dropping it completely.

Microsoft definitely doesn't. we're basically looking at what, 2011~-2017~? at this point i'd basically say we're in the main gen where both PC gaming and mobile gaming is kicking everyone's ass. for the latter one though... a lot of its games technically may have started previously but kicked into absolute mainstream madness here. to that end?

gotta have Angry Birds if it's from this era. dwarfs everything else. technically came out in 2009 on ios but android was 2010 and the real success goes from 2011 onwards. i'd put it over plants vs zombies for this category.

Overwatch meanwhile is another one of those "changed gaming forever" games. it wasn't the original shooter, we had TF2 and L4D, but there's a reason why even something like Marvel Rivals a decade later is competing with its sequel-that-isn't-a-sequel in this live service arena.

the most interesting part is that cena, like punk, is who you want to root for and he leaned into the crowd cheering him. glad they dove into summer of cena as a story. meanwhile punk is yet in another feud where all eyes are on him. dude just has made gold after gold in every story he's been in since returning.

the first two i think are the only two that need to be here as they're basically the biggest songs by each respective band, even though both had other better songs. Paramore, twitter boob aside for B8 relevancy, i think should get a nod because of popularity and later influence (especially Misery Business since Olivia Rodrigo later had to credit it in Good 4 U). also one of the few female singers of the scene. i also don't see Linkin Park fall into this genre so that's out.

fourth is trickier because it could be to Jimmy Eat World but i wanted to go with something more modern outside of early 2000s and emo's transition into other genres. for that, band's gotta be Pierce the Veil. they probably don't fit the category on today's tracks but King For A Day? like google checking has people trying to go "oh it's post-hardcore!" but this is the time period where the two basically blurred completely and literally every emo kid of 2010s was listening to PtV. i blame purists trying to label everything in one category.

don't see why it wouldn't be, it's an independent studio who made a game. they were former ubisoft devs who got together on their own, made it, found others to help (e.g., the music), and released it themselves.

the two Mario games are essential.
Sands of Time is included less because it's generally where i'd cite the mechanical shift in the genre. it revived an old series, made a trilogy, and was the series where 3D platformers also became action/adventure games. it's also the direct inspiration of the Assassin's Creed series, which has to give it points for that.
Ratchet and Clank has platformers being used as part of an action/third person shooter, which was pretty cool.

my issue with banjo, crash, and spyro is that they're just not that fun and i'm not sure they had that much of an overall impact. they're old, they've got a legacy to them from being the first 3D platformers, but that's kinda it. for something's legacy to matter it has to both be old and very clearly lead to something notably bigger than itself, as a direct inspiration.
