Super Mario 64
Super Mario Galaxy
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Ratchet and Clank

the two Mario games are essential.
Sands of Time is included less because it's generally where i'd cite the mechanical shift in the genre. it revived an old series, made a trilogy, and was the series where 3D platformers also became action/adventure games. it's also the direct inspiration of the Assassin's Creed series, which has to give it points for that.
Ratchet and Clank has platformers being used as part of an action/third person shooter, which was pretty cool.

my issue with banjo, crash, and spyro is that they're just not that fun and i'm not sure they had that much of an overall impact. they're old, they've got a legacy to them from being the first 3D platformers, but that's kinda it. for something's legacy to matter it has to both be old and very clearly lead to something notably bigger than itself, as a direct inspiration.

Undertale
Hollow Knight
Divinity: Original Sin
Shovel Knight

i don't see any reason to include failures (see: Mighty No 9, Star Citizen) because that's not what Rushmores are about. first 3 are locks: Undertale is a massive success for an individual game, Hollow Knight was a massive success for a genre that helped it become mainstream, Divinity OG1 put Larian back on the WRPG map and is a direct pipeline to Baldur's Gate 3 considering it's the same studio - a massive success for a company becoming mainstream.

fourth is harder. i just went with the one that got into Smash Bros.

Dracula feels like he'd belong on a rushmore of horror villains but for movies specifically i think i have to lean against others.

Freddy Krueger
Michael Myers
Chucky
Hannibal Lecter

Myers is there largely because, in addition to being the grandaddy for slasher villains, Jason is a direct clone until he got his own identity. so not only is Myers one of the most iconic villains but he's the direct inspiration of a secondary one.

Freddy's in here because of the way slasher films changed and he became a full on icon of the decade between the mask, glove, and face. he's limited time-wise but he's just plain iconic.

Hannibal to identify psychological horror, which needs some kind of representation.

Chucky's an interesting one because he's the only one who has successfully managed to keep relevance and viewership for over 30 years. seriously, Child's Play came out in 1988. Bride of Chucky, 1998. Chucky, the TV series, got 4 million viewers for both seasons 1 and 2 on each debut episode respectively and the TV series as a whole got multiple award nominations and even won some. now that last bit's on TV yes but that's a movie villain who, decades later, managed to make the transition fully and remains relevant. that isn't something i can say for literally any other name on this list. or really any other horror villain.

so generally i'd split things up a bit in terms of regions, unless there's something you're after. like if you're in downtown manhattan, you can easily pace yourself from stuff like lower west side, little italy/chinatown, and brooklyn bridge. if in midtown? central park/columbus circle, rockafeller center, times square, herald square.

for food, if you go to the lower west side you'll find a lot of eats in nice spots. if you want a bit of night life that's also where you're going to go, there's comedy clubs you can find down there next to tons of food, bars, pizza, etc. highly recommend that, it's also by where you'll find stuff like IFC theater, which is an indie movie theater, or Dante, which is a well known and well loved bar. all this stuff can be found from the West 4 stop, which a lot of trains get to.

i also recommend getting just across the Brooklyn bridge so you can enjoy the stuff to offer right on that border in between. specifically, Juliana's pizza if you want a sit down spot that's fantastic.

if you're exploring Chinatown/Little Italy, another pizza spot to check out is Prince Street Pizza. generic name but one of the best for regular NY slices, though honestly their pepperoni squares are the best.

if in midtown, check out Koreatown, ktown for short. it's on 32nd and 6th (Herald Square stop) and is mostly just 2 avenues full of places to eat. considering how limited your time is this is probably easier than going to Flushing in Queens.

if you did a Queens trip, Jackson Heights/Corona/Flushing would be the trio, especially if spanish speaking neighberhoods are desired (large Colombian community that then becomes large Indian and then large Chinese/Korean).

finally, is she into latin dancing? because there's places for that too, if that's part of the night life.

I think it's pretty insensitive toward actual believers to just handwave away miraculous things as myths just because you don't believe them or understand them.

if you've got supernatural powers that are literally as a result of a deity, you're a myth.
if your objection was that it's not fiction that's different from what you're saying there; myths don't necessarily need to be fake or made up stories, though they do teach lessons. Hinduism and Buddhism would be a great example of a modern religion covered in mythology that nobody will bat an eye over, including practitioners. everyone's well aware of Greek, Norse, and Celtic mythology and have no problem with their supernatural stories being myths. zero reason why Islam, Judaism, or Christianity should be any different.

Samson (Judeochristian mythology)
Yosemite Sam (Looney Tunes)

technically i'm not sure if Samson counts or not. he's in that grey area of all 3 major religions where there's specifics that seem to point to an actual person but the whole strength where he can solo a thousand men or lift a temple with his bare hands are obviously myth, as is the whole cutting his hair making him lose his strength, which is what he's best known for. and that story's gone on for thousands of years so gotta be him.

Kinect was successful but not that successful as a whole; about 20% of all 360 owners had one, entire lifetime of all Kinect items totaled to 35 million, 24 mil by 2013 (the 360 was discontinued in 2014 so roughly there). in other words, literally every Kinect owner "bought" Kinect Adventures since it was mainly bundled. all in all, i'm just ignoring Kinect as a whole because most people simply didn't have one or want one.

final 2:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Mass Effect

former's the revival of COD on the shooter machine of choice.
latter is the continued evolution/move of CRPGs. GTA4's the only competition to 'em all i think.

no PDF uploads, they've retired servers that are 15 years old that moot bought second hand, couple other changes and tweaks (and the removal of /f/). so the fix for their exploit, weeks later, appears to be just not having the thing that made said exploit possible.

oh i don't think either exploited the other since both are kids here and the story's of how they found porn. i agree that. and in the full scope of things i can almost see where kanye's coming from: the cousin went to jail at age 17, this sexual trauma began with the guy at age 6 and lasted until ???. we only know kanye's age was 14 when he stopped. so assuming they're somewhat similar in age this went on for a long time and it, combined with other trauma, could've led to some darker paths. said path being literally murder is a hell of a jump though.

but "kids are known to doing that sort of thing" is too forgiving because, well... no. kids are known to be curious sure but most ain't literally sucking their cousin's dick for presumably years. like there's lines that some might cross but that's deeply in the category of nope, that ain't normal and that ain't kids being kids.

Real identities and IP addresses of admins, mods, and a tons of registered users leaked.

so this is kinda the wild part that i came in here to talk about really. you know, stuff about the leak, how it happened, all that good stuff. if the main pic detailing how this was done was true then it wasn't a SQL injection, instead it was because PDF files could be uploaded and there was no check to be sure it was an actual PDF that was uploaded. as a result, you could upload scripts that took advantage of the old code and the user's status could be elevated to a higher rank.

some of the emails leaked make sense. protonmail, burner email providers, easy and logical. you're on an image board with a reputation and hasn't been updated in god knows how long. you're owned by a guy you know sells out to anyone. keep your shit private, don't use it anywhere.

...so a couple jannies were apparently using their .edu email to register. what?
worse, a number of jannies were using their emails on multiple sites, including youtube and instagram. again, what?

in terms of people who did anything returning, absolutely no fucking shot. the site code is fully leaked and it would be a completely new system to return. supposedly the main hacker doesn't have certain user data that could identify even more people - he didn't collect 4chan pass data - but i don't fully trust that because... well, if one guy had all this, how many others did too? besides literal feds i mean.

for other stuff let's see uh...

most people kinda already responded to tony's bit but yeah, most of the people who grew up on "4chan" aren't talking about the past 10 years realistically. they're talking about when /b/ was a thing, exploding vans in the news, /v/ being relevant, or /pol/ being... well, like /pol/ prior to the first or second exodus. hell, third maybe too but by then it's kinda downhill and a lot of them just migrated to twitter or reddit. you're basically looking at 10-25 years ago so uh... yeah, people with actual jobs and yes, in politics right now, grew up on that. there's no way you're telling me JD Vance wasn't on 4chan 20 years ago.

over the years it's essentially become reddit with a slight edge and even that got neutered more and more over the years. example, the usage of slurs: in the past there was no issue with them, terms of endearment were even made out of them. in more recent years you'd get banned for it. that's probably not common knowledge but that's kinda where things went.

mnk posted...

My only frame of reference for this was on the Pokemon board, but legitimate leakers or people who got the games early would sign up for a unique user code (it wasn't a username per se, just a series of letters and numbers). It was a way to answer questions while preventing impersonators from spreading misinformation.

tripcodes, or trip for short.
most users are anonymous but if you need to have an identifier you could have a registered account, a trip, and that can be used as your de facto username. yes, it goes against the whole concept of an anonymous board and yes, most people who use any image board hate them. over the years that hatred has declined as more people want to be viewed for themselves which honestly ruins the whole point. if there's a reason for your trip, like you're a leaker or you're a moderator trying to lay down some rules, it's understandable (though the latter will get hatred for different reasons). but if you're just doing this for ego, fuck off. that said uh... considering how old the code is and that it's owned by a guy who's notorious for selling to the highest bidder, government included, terrible spot to leak anything. if you're a leaker there you really, really better be behind a VPN and using burner content anyway because it's insecure as fuck.

...the stock market famously crashed and had their worst days in nearly 40 years with covid

i mean, i guess it "went up quite a bit" from that crater but the idea that the stock market went up during covid is kinda laughable. It recovered faster than COVID "went away" for the most part but it still took until the end of 2020 for that to happen and get back to where it was pre-pandemic.

was going to be snarky but frankly i'm not sure how to because what you're saying goes against a very, very easy record of reality and you're normally better than that. yes, the stock market went up quite a bit. that "quite a bit" is compared to literally any other period in recorded history. it took until summer for it to be as if nothing had happened, by year's end things were hitting record numbers. like that's what covid and the stock market are infamously known for at this point: the extreme disconnect between its rapid and record breaking highs, and the piss poor work situation. it proved the stock market and the economy are not even remotely the same. if you don't want to bother looking at charts, how about something from literally the nasdaq?

https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/2020-review-and-outlook-for-2021-2021-01-04

that's from Jan 2021. still prime covid time period, vaccine was very much so in limited demand and right after the peak of delta.

you start with the negative here:

In March, the Dow Jones Industrials declined 38% from all-time highs for its top 3 largest drawdowns (MoM) since the start of the 20th century.

....and then immediately get into:

In April, U.S. equity benchmarks rebounded more than 10%, marking the start of a historic V-shape recovery. It was the third-best monthly performance (+12.7%) for the S&P500 since WW II.

In June, the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) was the first equity benchmark to return to new highs, followed by the S&P 500 (SPX) in August.

In November, the Russell 1000 Value Index, the Russell 2000 Index, and the Russell Microcap Index all registered their best monthly performances on record. And the latter two indices, along with the Dow Jones Industrials (DJIA), returned to record highs.

As the pandemic worsened into year-end with record cases, deaths, and hospitalizations all leading to increased lockdowns and a slowdown in economic activity, Congress passed a $900 billion fiscal stimulus package in late December. Accordingly, the large-cap NDX, SPX, and INDU benchmarks each closed the year at record highs.

that last one clear?
as literally millions of people were dying and everything was shutting down, multiple indexes and funds were making record fucking highs.

so please tell me what's "kinda laughable" here. yes, 2020 was a fantastic year for the stock market. 2021 continued this trend. for everyone else, it was terrible.

people yelling about the stock market like it's remotely based on anything in reality and isn't just a casino that's loosely based on a true story.

from what i can tell a lot of trump fans basically don't care at all for it.
part of this is influenced by the fact that during COVID the stock market went up quite a bit at the same time people were fired or otherwise unable to work.

It's what did the five fingers say to the face, not what did the four fingers and a thumb say to the face

counterpoint, every time the three have been in the ring Iyo gets cheered and chanted the most.

hell, the crowd boo'd Rhea when she's being disrespectful. multiple weeks this nonsense has kept happening and Iyo's the one cheered the most. like, logically Liv should've been the face but because of mannerisms wasn't (and anything with Dom instantly gets boo'd). in this situation she's kinda gotta be both: heel to Iyo, face to Bianca.

Rhea isn't going to get heat, they should be turning Bianca instead.

Bianca's already a heel.
