Rules:

4. Consider the character's appearances throughout the entire Ace Attorney series.

8. Pretty much every character from Ace Attorney will be rated. The schedule will go in chronological game order in the West (with AAI2 being right after AAI just for consistency). When a character debuts and gets a major speaking role, they will show up (so Trucy appearing for a moment in 4-1 doesn't count as a 4-1 character). Major characters get their own day and minor characters are all ranked at once. All extremely minor characters (background, animals, mascots, and jury) will be rated on the final day.
9. The "roles" listed are: Defense, Rival, Assistant, Detective, Judge, Victim, Defendant, Culprit, Witness, Background, Animal, Mascot, and Jury. Sorry, I'm not pointing out accomplices.

My rating: 9/10

Phoenix is one of my favorite protagonists in all of entertainment. He's incredibly likable, both in the mundane moments and during the emotionally high moments. He grows so much in every game of the OT. He only loses points because his story doesn't end at the OT. Notably, the AJ appearance really brings him down to being unrecognizable. They salvaged it with his DD and SOJ appearances, but it's hard to come back from that crazy swerve. I do like that he comes off as far more respectable, especially when controlling Apollo and Athena, which fits with where his character's at. Unfortunately, they kinda give Phoenix a few "notable" characteristics to separate him from Athena and especially Apollo. DD-era Phoenix is known for his bluffing, which......I mean, he bluffs a few times!

I'm a big fan of the KH2 randomizer, so it'll be nice to get this for the randomizer alone.

The featured character list was tough! My goals are:

1. Pick characters that provoke discussion
2. Avoid spoilers or hints (dont always make the culprit the featured character)
3. With 50 case days, aim for a 25/25 split among men and women

Some of them getrough. I might have to abbreviate names like Aura and Dhurke. I might shift Shih-na to E1-4s slot alongside Badd too.

These all seem reasonable.

I got major characters by including anyone that fits any of these roles: Defense, Rival, Assistant, or Detective. I added The Judge, removed the Paynes, and removed some of the more minor assistants (Grossberg, Maggey, Teneiro). Doing it by # of appearances leads to some weird circumstances, since AA loves their cameos. Here's the minor characters that show up in at least 3 separate cases in the series (this is counting sprites-only):

Everyone is here! I split characters into Major Characters, Minor Characters, and Final Characters. Major characters get their own day, while minor characters are all packed in one day by case. Some cases will be combined due to having a tiny character list.

Each character will show up in order of their debut case, with major characters being done first. If a character has a cameo in an early case, I wait until they have a more full case before going over them (such as Susato skipping G1-1 for her G1-2 appearance).

Final characters will be the final day. It will have all background characters (like Deid Mann), all mascots (like Charley), all animals (like Polly), and all jurors (like Quinby Altamont). Itll be a pretty big post.

The rules are generally going to be the same. Some character-specific rules are that you should consider their appearance throughout the entire series (as youre aware of) and you may skip any characters on the minor character days. Since some of these characters are in multiple games, I will use spoiler tags.

Since the character list is massive, results will only show each previous days character plus two above and two below. After each game, Ill go over general results in this topic (like top 5 witnesses, bottom 5 witnesses, etc.)

If anyone has any suggestions or would be more comfortable with moving any of these characters around (from Final to Minor or Minor to Major), Im open to that.

G2-5 scoresexactly the same as G2-4, which makes a lot of sense. People enjoyed the trial, especially all the way to finding the killer. The Dance of Deduction and the Professor Killings were the highlights. Many felt the ending was lackluster, as well as many things surrounding the big bad of the series. Many pointed out the irony of the title, as Naruhodo doesn't do much in this case. As a result, several also felt that this leads to GAA2 feeling kind of ehh, despite its overall high quality.

G2-4 proved difficult to rank, as the case ends midway through the case. That said, the investigation portion proved to have some good moments, particularly Gregson's death, the Dance of Deduction, Yujin Mikatoba's actual role, and Kazuma's new theme. Some liked the character development and the Trial 1 witnesses. Most did not like that this is an incomplete case and other complaints include the Trial 1 witnesses and some of the development not really making sense.

Summary:

For ten years, the Reaper of the Old Bailey has claimed the life of anyone who escaped prosecutor van Zieks' trials. Now, Ryunosuke, Sholmes, and all their partners come together to find the truth behind these deaths and shine light on the darkness enveloping London's courts once and for all.

My rating: 6.5/10. We're at the finish line! I enjoyed this finale. I know many have their issues with Stronghart, but I generally liked him a lot. Gant but stretched out to be a full game antagonist rather than a single case antagonist worked quite well. It's the E1-5 culprit but it actually makes sense why we can't get him since everyone is compromised. Kazuma is.....fine, but I feel like he's just too much on the periphery here. I generally liked the trial all the way up to the end. I'm sure many have their issues with the ending starting with hologram Sholmes. I agree with it, but....eh, I'm not entirely sure if Takumi is the person to come up with a good and adequate answer to how do you fix a corrupt government.

Great winner. I really liked 3/4 semifinalists and I have Nier: Automata on my backlog, so maybe it'll be 4/4.

I always enjoy a foil to the main character that dresses in all white.

Several claimed this is the best case of the GAA series. It earns a spot in the top 5. Many praised the characters, especially Drebber and Tusspells. Even the smaller things like the anti-gravity Dance of Deduction and the Professor backstory were praised. Most people felt the ending was a little lacking. Some felt this was a small footnote, while others felt that it kept the case from being truly great.

Still reeling from his last case, Ryunosuke is set on the trail of a missing guard at the local prison - and stumbles into a red-headed league, a murder at the edge of town, and a trial against a truly unbelievable opponent.

My rating: 8.5/10. This is a very difficult case to rank, since it's actually an incomplete case. The beginning of this case is really strong. Everything seems pretty simple until you get hit with a double whammy of van Zieks being the defendant for killing Gregson. I enjoyed all 3 alley witnesses and I did not catch that Gossip was Daley, which led to a nice twist. The Red-Headed League is really enjoyable. I laughed when I got to the testimony where they're like "yeah, we basically kidnapped him and lost him, we fucked up" and everyone is just appalled. Kazuma is.....well, we'll get to G2-5 for my full opinions, but he works here.
