Eh, Murphy with 80s imagined sci-fi tech versus the much more advanced sci-fi tech in Cyberpunk.

Nah, he would not do very well.

He'll need at least a similar upgrade like the 2014 reboot version to even stand much of a chance.

*Be me, black man who lives in middle of Texas voting in primary*
*Same venue and all that, slight steady stream of people*
*get into main hall of the community center, notices people hunched down at tables with those dividers*
<Me>: "....Paper ballots?"

*asks one of the workers how come the paper ballots for this year*
<Me>: *already has an idea, but wanted to know if she knew* "Hey, why are we on paper ballots this year?"
*She doesn't know, but calls over one of the 'leaders,' some big tall white dude*
<Me>: *asks him the same thing*
<Dude>: *gives a spiel that basically is paraphrased as thus* "It's easier to keep track of where the votes go on a paper ballot"
<Me>: "Really?"
*Oh god....either he's naive or really is a believer in the conspiracy*
<Me>: "But, the electronic ones were secure before, they weren't connected to anything on the outside."
<Dude>: *I can see him struggling to answer that* "They...had a connection ((a lie right there)), but..." *goes back to odd 'answer' about paper ballots having a better trail on who person voted for, which...makes little sense*
<Me>: "Okay, thank you."

....
*walking outside of the community center, an older black woman is also walking out at same time.*
<Me>: "That was fun, huh?"
<Woman>: "At least it was fast."
<Me>: "The electronic machines were faster."
<Woman>: "Yes they were."
<Me>: "And-"
<Woman>: *interrupts* "And we both know why they took 'em out. Believing in conspiracy theories."

It's sad as hell to see the 'voting fraud' conspiracy theory bullshit that the GQP politicians gleefully harped on about take shape and make things go backwards in terms of progress.

Oh, and to make sure I wasn't talking out of my ass, I checked this, but keep in mind, it's an article from 2022....

https://www.tpr.org/government-politics/2022-10-26/texas-voting-machines-are-secure-heres-how-they-actually-work
Hacking concerns unfounded, state says
One false allegation that circulated around voting machines is that they are hackable because of a connection to the internet. Scott explained why this isnt true.
Voting machines in Texas are never connected to the internet, he said. In fact, in order to be certified in Texas elections, they cannot even have the capability of connecting to the internet.
This allegation comes from a misunderstanding about how voting data gets transferred and counted.

I have no idea why anyone would put Baseball on the list. It is mostly standing around doing nothing, unless you are the pitcher

Until the ball comes your way if you're an outfielder, then you gotta run dat ass and throw fast and hard and accurately as possible to attempt to get an Out on the guy running for a base.

But that's only if that guy makes a good enough HIT on the ball in the first place (and hit it accurately, too, without making it a foul ball).

And that depends on if the Pitcher is good enough to even not let that guy hit by making consistent, accurate, fast and HARD throws to strike that person out in the first place, or risk letting em walk.

You really can't underestimate any sport until you break it down into what all requires what. It's only slow and boring to us audience who don't care for it much unless someone does make an exciting hit.
These days, baseball went through some rules change to speed things up in order to drum up excitement, and so far, it seems to be working.

Yeah, Hockey does look like it'd be tough as hell, considering all the stuff the guys have to do while keeping balanced on ice and constantly moving, while wearing heavy equipment.

Basketball is up there.

Football/Gridiron is obvious.

I wouldn't sneeze on Golf, either, considering if you're just swinging as an amateur, it's easy to see how tough it is to even get CLOSE to any consistent hits...and that's before learning how to putt the damn ball right.

Anyone who says NASCAR/F1 racing isn't hard are fooling themselves.

...
Honestly, a lot of sports, especially professionally, are tough in some degree or another. Making a list for top hardest is gonna fall into subjectives.

Unless if someone brings up that stupid "slap" sport.

Making the rounds, now.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/27/world/europe/willy-wonka-experience-glasgow.html

Snippet.
Families in Scotland were expecting to taste chocolate treats and observe optical marvels at a Willy Wonka-themed event in Glasgow this past weekend. Instead, they got a couple of jelly beans, a short walk around a nearly empty warehouse and a visit from police officers.
The event, Willys Chocolate Experience, scheduled for Feb. 24 and 25, promised on event listing websites to include chocolate fountains, performances by Oompa Loompas and interactive experiences inspired by scenes from Roald Dahls book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
One father, Stuart Sinclair, drove two hours from Dundee to take his three children to the event. There was maybe 20 chairs, a couple of tables and a half-inflated bouncy castle, he said.
Mr. Sinclair said that he paid 35 pounds, or about $44, per ticket for his two sons, aged 10 and 11, and his daughter, 4, who was dressed in a Willy Wonka costume and had told her preschool teachers how excited she was to go to the event.

The children got two jelly beans each, Mr. Sinclair said. And then they got a half a cup of lemonade.

Alucard188 posted...
Very old law that hasn't been repealed yet.

Yeah.
Unlike the TC, I'll be nice and do some folks a favor.

As it stands, Missouri judges cannot legally finalize a divorce if a woman is pregnant.
Three other states have similar laws: Texas, Arizona, and Arkansas. While a couple can still file for divorce in Missouri, the court must wait until after a woman gives birth in order to finalize child custody and child support.
When it comes to domestic violence, theres no exceptions.
It just doesnt make sense in 2024, said State Rep. Ashley Aune, a Democrat representing District 14 in Platte County, and thats where it becomes a problem for her.

She introduced a bill this legislative session that essentially says pregnancy cannot prevent a judge from finalizing a divorce or separation.
I just want moms in difficult situations to get out if they need to, she said.
She agreed that while the law was made with good intentions, like making sure kids are taken care of, she feels it needs to be updated to reflect modern times.
This is something that was brought to me by folks in my community who shared that it was a huge problem, Aune said.
During a committee hearing earlier this month, Aune said one woman shared a powerful testimony regarding an abusive situation she was in while pregnant.
Not only was she being physically and emotionally abused but there was reproduction coercion used. When she found out she was pregnant and asked a lawyer if she could get a divorce, she was essentially told no. It was so demoralizing for her to hear that. She felt she had no options, Aune said.
A report from Missouris Department of Health and Senior Services says out of 10,098 women surveyed between 2007-2014, nearly 5% were abused either before or during pregnancy. That equates to about 500 women.

This legislation could literally save lives, added Matthew Huffman with the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, which works to ensure its advocates have the resources needed to provide services to rape and abuse survivors. For abusive partners they might be using reproductive coercion and control to keep their partner pregnant so that they cant ever actually be granted a divorce.
Huffman said the current law comes down to two things: paternity and not wanting a child to be born without a determined father along with child custody.
While Huffman didnt have exact numbers on hand he did say women who experience domestic violence while pregnant are more likely to have complications and poor health outcomes.
Maternal exposure to domestic violence is associated with increased risk of low birth weight, pre-term birth, and infants exposed to it can show signs of trauma.

...Okay, this part actually depressed me.

The bill is still a work in progress, and despite Aunes passion to change the law she said she doesnt feel hopeful that itll get to Governor Mike Parsons desk this session.
Still, the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence considered it a top priority.
