What always got me were the shows where someone would be back for the 3rd or 4th time trying to find the father.

When I was actually more into Maury several years ago, I do recall one (white) woman who was there for....8 times total?
Kept testing groups of guys at a time, including (reportedly...) one dead dude.
The final time, she just gave up. No ultra-dramatic meltdowns, just a flat-out "I'm done."

...
As a sidenote, I find it telling that Jerry Springer and Maury both never did any grand final episode. Both just called it quits with zero fanfare, only letting entertainment news publications and shows talk about the show(s) quietly ending.

Its amazing to me how clueless parents can be with their kids. They thought it was perfectly normal to let a kid that was diagnosed on the spectrum with major depression, anxiety, some and form of schizo, have a fascination with horror movies, morbid humor, serial killers, and school shootings. Like they started to question him when they discovered a set of knives, duck tape, zip ties, and other weapons for torture previously so he threw them away and they all moved on from it a year prior. He didnt have a bad childhood at all and was just allowed to be molded by his fascination with violence with all his conditions.

It's usually flat-out denial. Even with said red flags of others, the parents won't immediately throw their own child under the bus like that.
"My son/daughter would never do anything bad!"

Until it does happen, of course.

And it is denial "until the bad thing happens" because admitting that maybe your kid really is fucked up and could grow into a serial killer would feel like an admission that the parent failed their child in some way, even if they did everything reasonably correct for raising him or her, as such parents would assume it'd invite a lot of shame and scrutiny that "they're just as bad" and some such.

I know there's a book I spotted on the subject for parents to pay better attention to the signs that their child might be or growing into sociopathy, and ways to steer them away from it.

Full title: New Indiana law requires professors to promote 'intellectual diversity' to keep tenure
...
https://www.npr.org/2024/03/22/1239534856/new-indiana-law-requires-professors-to-promote-intellectual-diversity-to-keep-te

SNIPS

A new Indiana law allows universities to revoke a professor's tenure if they don't promote so-called "intellectual diversity" in the classroom.

Supporters of the measure say it will make universities more accepting of conservative students and academics. But many professors worry the law could put their careers in jeopardy for what they say, or don't say, in the classroom.

"I'd say it ends tenure in the state of Indiana as we know it," said Ben Robinson, associate professor of Germanic Studies at Indiana University.
Tenure is supposed to mean indefinite employment for professors, where they can only be fired for cause or some extraordinary circumstance. According to Robinson, the status "allows faculty the freedom to pursue their inquiries and their teaching without fear of reprisal."

But some academics in the state are worried that the new law allows university boards of trustees to interfere with tenure, which normally is handled by university departments.

That's not how supporters see it.

Republican state Sen. Spencer Deery, a former chief of staff for the Purdue University president and the bill's sponsor, said the new law would help conservative students feel more comfortable expressing their opinions on campus.

"The American public and Hoosiers as well are losing faith and trust in higher education," Deery said. "One of the strong reasons for that is, frankly, higher education hasn't done a great job of making every viewpoint feel welcome."

...
I have a question for such folks in support of that law.

Exactly, what conservative viewpoints are we talking about?

Yup. Kefka tends to be revered in terms of how successful he was. But outside of that, he's just another clichd maniacal overlord who wants to rule the world.

Slight correction on that. Dude is a super nihilist. He just wants to destroy everything, including himself at the center of it.
At the time of FF6's release, there were at least two others before him (Cloud of Darkness, Exdeath) who essentially wanted the same thing. Kefka's just number 3 on the list who was going full-omnicide.

I can understand why people put Sephy into a box descriptor by saying he has "mommy issues," but thinking about it, it's kind of incorrect.

"Mommy issues" imply he's had trauma from his would-be mother, when his actual blood-mother had little to do with him, and Jenova...he just imprints himself on as he drove himself off the deep-end.

Yeah, it's rough af in some spots, but aside from the Lego people aesthetic for charcter models, a lot of the environments still hold up and do their job.

Remember, the fact that said environments are pre-rendered probably helps with that.
Anything 3D modeled (even the characters in the FMVs) are all quite simple.

For comparison's sake, FF9 aged a little bit better on the PS1 due to improvements in graphics by the time that game came out.

Hell of a lot more well-written and interesting than Kefka.

Kefka's popular because he's essentially The Joker in Final Fantasy flavoring. The nihilistic variant from the DCU. Though notable in that he did get most of his goals accomplished.

While Sephiroth's goals, when broken down all the way, basically amount to him wanting to become a god, the method for it and how he psychologically torments the hero on a personal level helps a bit more.

The original game did explain it, though you might have glossed over it since so much was already happening at the time.

But Sephiroth wanted meteor to hit so that (he theorized) the planet would use the Lifestream energy to fix the damage. But it would be a lot of energy, that Sephiroth was planning to be in the center of to take for himself and become similar to his "mother," Jenova.

For clarification about my dislike on cheese on everything...

It's more of a dislike on it being in stuff I don't expect or don't want it to be in (let's say, cheesy bread, cheesy grits, Mexican corn which I did not expect....). I don't care for stuff that's solely cheese (cheese pizza, grilled cheese sandwiches...). Even had one bad incident where a hole-in-the-wall seafood place mixed in cheese with their fried shrimp batter. Hated it so much, I figured that was when I made decision to never go back to it.
Oh, and had a restaurant dress up my mashed potatoes "loaded" but used waay too much unmelted shredded cheese (in big chunks, too) that I wound up dumping the lot of that crap out.
