Sadly I sometimes wonder if the real time aging thing is a possible reason capcom does not use jill nowhere near as much as they do chris when it comes to showing up in the actual main resident evil games alot. How some of these japanese companies have a reluctance to use older female characters outside of some sort of power/method that keeps them young looking like with soul calibur's ivy.

It's the same problem Hollywood has. Once an actress passes a certain age she is no longer lead/supporting lead/love interest material and at this point has to take on the role of "the old witch." Sometimes literally. Some manage to delay this fate though. Charlize Theron is still doing pretty well for herself.

I admit, i was a bit of a latecomer. Didnt play ff7 until 2015 (Love the remake project so far btw), but i do faintly recall the Mako->Fossil Fuels comparison being pretty noticeable.

...at worst/best its more blatant in remake, (Voice acting, Adaptation Expansion, etc) but it was definitely there.

I mean mako was much more heavy handed than fossil fuels. Climate change is one thing, but draining mako causes the cycle of life to stop and, if Bugenhagen's model is a literal representation, the planet to actually fall apart.

That's why I get iffy when people go overboard pointing out Barret's extremist actions as being comparable to religious extremism. It really isn't. Religious extremists kill people in the name of their fictional sky daddy. Barret's actions are in the name of a provable and impending death of the planet.

The comic strip For Better Or For Worse actually did age its characters in real time and even had them die. Pretty sure it went on long enough that a character who was a baby when the comic debuted grew up and had a family of their own.

I like when fiction gets experimental like that. Same with 24.

I don't believe that alone is anything too worrisome. Heck, I'm young and I've had at least two or three occurrences where I wake up from a dream and question for a moment if what I said or did during the dream was something that really happened.

nah, probably not. I have dreams like that every now and then about high school, and I'll wake up stressing about a paper or homework, but I've been out of school for over a decade lol.

I can vouch for both of these.

Also even when an older person does have a genuine moment of forgetfulness, that isn't necessarily a sign of dementia. It's a sign of an aging brain. They call them "senior moments" for a reason after all. When it becomes routine and starts going beyond that, like they start forgetting where the bowls are kept (the same place they've been for the last 40 years) or their children's names that you should consider getting them looked at.

I watched this happen with my grandmother. You get to know the signs.
I freak out every time my mother has a moment (age 70) because there's a good chance we are genetically disposed toward dementia. Said grandmother was one of eight children and four of them - including her - developed it. There's coincidence, and then there's that.

Go to a community-based substance abuse program. They're (almost always) free, and there's no ongoing obligation. Not all of them are live-in rehab; they're not going to diagnose you and then lock you on a farm for 3 months or whatever bullshit Dr Phil pushes. Hell I drink a bottle of vodka every night and I still go to these things because I almost always take something away from them. Hearing other people's stories can be very enlightening.

That's what death will be like. Exactly like before we were born.
It's just difficult to imagine because that was in the past, whereas death is in the future and will never end. You won't wake up and realize "huh, where'd that time go." You just won't wake up.

I think that was true 15-20 years ago when the Bourne movies came out and the Bond folks did Casino Royale, but at this point I think many people would like a return to form, so to speak. People love the Marvel movies and they're full of over the top supervillains and plots. You don't have to go super ridiculous anyway. Just don't be so dry. I think there's a happy medium.

Just the typical formula with the fun gadgets and cars, the quips, the fun. Stuff like that.

I thought you might mention superhero movies, but I'd counter that those are a genre with actual superpowered people (and even gods) that wield magic and other abilities far outside the realm of anything we'd accept in the spy genre. You know what you're going into with a Marvel movie and adjust mindset accordingly.

I do agree gadgets and quips were less common in the Craig era though. Ben Whishaw is a likeable enough Q and Ralph Fiennes is a pretty good M. They'll just need to get a more comedic actor in the role if they want to recapture the spirit of the Moore era.

I'm hoping (maybe against hope) that this recent surge in fascism is the last ditch effort of an obsolete generation trying to cling to power against their own mortality. If Bush didn't get tricked/lied to by Cheney and/or Rumsfeld, I wonder if he would have had a decent legacy. No way he decided to attack Iraq on his own.

He'd still be criticized for a bunch of things he did domestically (though I've only had that explained to me in passing, not in detail, so someone else will have to fill those details in), but yeah, without the Iraq invasion the world would be unimaginably different right now.

Not necessarily better, and I'm sure with just as many problems, but definitely different.

If I can say one thing about Bush compared to Trump it's that Bush at least has appropriate personal conduct, and looks at home wearing a suit and occupying the office. His "Bushisms" were unbecoming, but they're a mere fraction of the cringeworthy botched abortion that is Trump's public behavior. The office of the presidency itself has been tainted by that man. I doubt modern audiences would resonate with the more outlandish supervillain plots anymore. Jason Bourne changed the game, and that's why the Craig era was the way it was. Moonraker, The Spy Who Loved Me, and the like were great at the time. They're still watchable today. But as new releases? Eh...

But, I'm curious, what do you mean by "what everyone loves about JB movies?" I'm interested.

I can get behind a black or Asian actor as James Bond. And as weird as it would be at first, I can get on board with a female James Bond. My only non-negotiable requirement is that they be British.

It's possible. Didn't the MAGA board get shut down because they were cheering on the Jan 6 terrorists? That was without Fandom at the helm, and since after they took over they didn't even let the politics board continue to exist at all, it's quite possible they will disable the boards around November to save the hassle of having to ban so many people.

Long story short, we've been through two Trump elections without Fandom and those were bad enough. The next one's going to be even worse, and with Fandom in the picture. The past cannot represent an indicator of the future at that point.
