That's how I started, also having elbow issues. Also could have to do with your grip. I still can't do many pullups (like only 4 or 5 before my arms totally take over) because of shoulder mobility so that's what I'm working around. I'm an evening pooper. I go every day at roughly 5:30pm, after I get home from work and take my pre-workout (which has 200mg of caffeine, or about 2 cups of coffee).
