Topic | Is it weird that I feel the internet's going to end in our lifetimes? |
R_Jackal 06/30/25 9:16:55 AM #34 | The Internet already ended, really. It was supposed to be a place for the free exchange of information instantaneously and worldwide communication. Now, it's for data harvesting and advertisement with any engagement being a secondary. Corporations ruin literally everything they stick their hands in to. Now it's basically a global scale instant access HSN. |
Topic | Tales of Arise was supposed to be good |
R_Jackal 06/30/25 12:22:37 AM #42 | The game does the exact opposite of what a JRPG should be doing and basically starts off at its high point, then past like ~10/15ish hours in it just starts falling off a cliff. |
Topic | Chud Gamers Aren't Reacting Well to This World of Warcraft Video Scene |
R_Jackal 06/29/25 6:41:56 PM #17 | While there are people being mad for stupid reasons, the entire quality of the recent stuff in WoW has been a raging dumpster fire under various levels of control for a while. |
Topic | How do you not be "a gamer"? |
R_Jackal 06/29/25 10:47:18 AM #10 | Just have other interests, really. Gaming is my favorite and biggest hobby but the one I generally talk about the least unless it comes up. Also don't engage in typical games culture behavior offline, gamer memes are especially bad unless they're mainstream. That's about it, really. |

R_Jackal 06/29/25 10:01:37 AM #47 | doshindude posted... AI is just NFTs in slow motion. Any company trying to shove it into people's daily lives is doomed to fail. Microsoft took the bait hook line and sinker.I don't care for AI but no, it's not going to fail. Whether consumer adoption fails or not it's another matter since people are fickle with new toys and the media saturation it gets, but medical/general research/military applications for AI are definitively there to stay at this point. |

Seeing this much vivid emotion with that voice.Corpo versus indie, especially with means these days. Indie vtubers with the cash and time can get models that are damn near on-par with a face came for expressiveness these days. Corps still run cost-to-profit, indies run "But spending it is fun" basically lol |

R_Jackal 06/28/25 10:40:57 PM #37 | darkknight109 posted... Which, again, is a very good sign that something is very wrong with the education system! ...snip Absolutely agree, really. I'm not even wholly against AI being in education in the same scope as Internet/Computer work as it's just here now(as in class on proper use, how to, etc). Regardless of my own feelings on AI we really need to prep as here in the US it's blatantly obvious the pace of the world in and out of school are two vastly different beasts. And yeah, I have my slightly curmudgeonly views on AI but the Internet is essentially the same thing(I would argue at this point AI is essentially just a new UI for the Internet, honestly), but my feelings aren't the reality for how the world is going to go and we need to be ready for it... Which, if trends show anything, by the time we're equipped for AI in our education system, we'll already be on to whatever the next biggest thing is. Edit: on a different note, banning AI is already happening. As a disclaimer I live in a Southern State prone to knee-jerk decisions, but we've schools switching back to entirely pen and paper classes to combat it. No phones allowed. |

If AI can get you a post-secondary degree, maybe that means the way we used to teach doesn't line up with modern realities and should be revisited. My man school only properly caught up with the Internet in the past 5-8 years in the US. By the time we catch up with AI we'll probably in a post apocalyptic dystopia. |
Topic | Remember when Keanu Reeves was supposed to be in a live action Cowboy Bebop? |
R_Jackal 06/28/25 7:08:59 PM #9 | The live action Bebop was alright outside of whatever the fuck they were trying to do with Vicious tbh. |

R_Jackal 06/28/25 6:24:04 PM #2 | These businesses don't care about quality, they just care about speed and profit. AI is good for both of those, technically. |

Topic | Scenario: Killer Croc interviews for a mundane job you're advertising. |
R_Jackal 06/25/25 5:06:48 PM #47 | Assuming I know who he is and he took the time to politely apply and sit through an interview in a damn suit I would absolutely take a chance on him. Dude is putting in the effort, even if it doesn't pay off he should at least get the chance. People really don't get the humanity aspect here it looks like. |
Topic | Scenario: Your country introduces a draft and you are selected to fight in Iran. |
R_Jackal 06/25/25 5:03:07 PM #62 | I'm ineligible for literally everything. Bad back and knees, carpal tunnel, no feeling in three fingers on my left hand, basically blind without glasses. I would be a damned good done pilot, if I only have to work in half hour or so spurts though. Suppose if they were dead set on drafting me I would probably end up riding a desk somewhere. |

R_Jackal 06/25/25 12:15:42 PM #10 | bnui_ransder posted... Ugh....That's my primary problem with AI art for these businesses. Topic | What's the most dogshit fanbase? |
R_Jackal 06/24/25 12:51:30 PM #14 | As a member of the FGC(Fighting game community), it's the FGC. It's also basically the best one too, but there's very little in-between. |
Topic | Guy who predicted 2nd Trump pres., attack on Iran predicts WW3 |
R_Jackal 06/24/25 12:49:34 PM #41 | The guy is undeniably smarter than me but the first two things could, unfortunately, be seen a mile off WW3 has already started, trench warfare is useless these days--WW3 started with economic warfare already. "War"isn't just about the bodies you throw around these days. |
Topic | As PS5/Series X reaches its end, is this the lamest generation ever? |
R_Jackal 06/24/25 11:10:14 AM #92 | Solid_Sonic posted... I'm not sure how much of that is correct or me being an old man but you're right. It seems to be a kind of common sentiment. A lot of the breakthrough titles are cross generation. The eternal chasing of live service is directly opposed to ever increasing photo realism and the collapsing model of the "AAA factory" along with increasingly miniscule graphical improvements means... There was really very little going on this generation. This was basically a "highschool" generation of consoles imo. Experience may vary, but a lot of the time was spent figuring out what we're doing and where we're going. I guess the amount of drama in the game industry fits, too. |

R_Jackal 06/22/25 12:30:58 PM #10 | As a contractor that's basically every day. Assuming I'm getting 1k USD a week I can basically retire as that way more than suits my lifestyle. I'll take one day of feeling like crap a week over about half of every day feeling like crap. |

R_Jackal 06/19/25 10:10:24 AM #111 | I would probably get 100k and be done. It'd get boring eventually. Could easily keep myself occupied with FTL, MH Rise, and Slay the Spire. Throw in Nightreign and the new Rune Factory. Easy peasy chill out time. I love solitude and lately I get absolutely none. |

Topic | Wait is Metaphor an action RPG? |
R_Jackal 06/17/25 10:31:01 PM #8 | The action RPG mechanics are to avoid tedium. If you're fighting enemies considerably weaker than you, you can just bonk 'em with the sword on the world map and move on with your loot and some exp. You can also use the action-style fighting to get a little extra damage and a free turn in the turn-based. |

R_Jackal 06/17/25 10:29:38 PM #4 | They did, but I live in the south. People got mad at it, and so it was shot once, and run over by a truck the other time. Back to real workers here, for now. |

R_Jackal 06/15/25 12:46:03 AM #53 | Meanwhile in 5 years we'll still be working with backend employees fighting with both the AI and user being dumb which are both fighting each other to accomplish slightly complex tasks because they couldn't bother to read the summarized 4 sentence email on proper use, more generated porn than we ever thought possible, and robotics hoping to catch up fast enough to push people out of labor jobs... Space travel isn't even a glimmer in anyone's eye yet, AI or otherwise. |
Topic | AI chatbots could be fun for NPCs |
R_Jackal 06/14/25 9:08:31 PM #10 | I don't want to waste even more time getting plot relevant details than games already do. I also have absolutely 0 interest in interacting with AI in a conversational way. |

R_Jackal 06/11/25 9:40:46 PM #23 | A reminder that Dino Crisis/2, Breath of Fire 4, and the PS1 RE1/2/3 trio are all GOG if people want to show interest in those. |

Topic | ChatGPT is down |
R_Jackal 06/11/25 12:07:15 PM #113 | As someone who has a dislike for AI, I think people are a bit mistaken in their hatred. It's a tool--no different than a hammer in essence, though capable of a great many tasks. Being upset with the AI itself is kind of pointless as it's basically just the next evolution of the entire tech sector. What people should be repulsed by is just that however--the tech sector. Increasingly filled with disdain for the non-wealthy, hoarding resources, leveraging their position to generally make life worse just to push a product, living by "break things, fix it later" as a mantra and yet they've essentially only made problems worse in recent years with no signs of anything getting fixed at any point in time soon. AI has its issues but it does absolutely have a great many beneficial users(translation, medical, and research based especially). Hold these terrible companies responsible instead of bitching about the product, you might see the change you want. |

Just cause they dont need to slash the price of their games down to 20% to get rid of stock a few months later doesnt mean there arent sales and discounts.Every other company tends to have sales every quarter fairly regularly. Topic | Tempted to dip on the Switch 2 >_> |
R_Jackal 06/11/25 11:34:22 AM #34 | Not worth it if you have a Switch 1 and/or gaming PC at the moment. The new features aren't well fleshed out, hardware issues, and a battery life that's just about as bad(or worse if you're playing Mario Kart World) than a Steam Deck I would wait for the software to catch up. It's not like you're actually getting a deal on the hardware, and the Affirm financing is likely to stay around. |

R_Jackal 06/11/25 9:09:17 AM #24 | No, it is sad. It's also sad we're at a point where people find it easiest to interact with these things that generally don't challenge them or just generally are hyper obedient in their response. Very sad times. |
Topic | Would you be FOR or AGAINST Gun Control in the US? |
R_Jackal 06/10/25 8:24:23 PM #30 | As a gun owner, I absolutely support even the hardest of firearm control measures. Admittedly I would still need one as I live rurally and sometimes very dangerous wildlife make their way to my property... But being able to end a life with something you can easily hide on your person is way too dangerous to just be out there freely. |
