My apology, I misspoke. I meant purposely waiting as in they're already fine with X amount but are intentionally forestalling the acceptance just to get more money outta it. Though I guess if said passenger gets too greedy and keeps stalling someone is bound to accept the amount before them.

Couldn't giving too much have a negative effect as well? As the flight attendants raises the "bid" I can imagine some customers almost fighting for the extra money. Imagine if some passengers purposely wait on accepting the amount until the compensation reaches something they're satisfied with.

I'm never one for clubs due to the noise, crowd, bloody expensive drinks, etc. (basically everything clubs are known for) but I can't help but wonder if this is just some glorified LAN with a similar size crowd, noise level, and bloody expensive drinks.

Still, I can imagine my friends and me visiting this place if the prices are reasonable for the location. I wonder how well it'll stay afloat outside of the major tournaments. I think EVO is usually hosted at MGM.

I know with roadside assistance certain knowledge is probably not necessary but I'd rather spend the 15-20 minutes getting my hands dirty and doing it myself than waiting 40+ minutes for a professional to arrive and do it for me.

Though I have had my idiotic moments as well. There was a week where my engine randomly had trouble starting and I just couldn't figure out what it was. Called AAA one time only to find out the connection to the battery was loose. Of all the things I looked at I failed to make sure the connection was secure. I was lazy this year and put it off until last week. Normally I'm done around February. My return was weird though. Both in 2015 and 2016 I claimed only myself. In 2015 I got back $15 whereas this year I got back about $1,500. When I checked my W-2 form from 2016 somehow I didn't claim myself so was tax the full amount in 2016.

I used the 1040-A form this year instead of 1040-EZ form. Actually felt a bit overwhelmed and the majority that the 1040-A asked for didn't even apply to me. I shoulda stayed with the 1040-EZ form. For some reason Franklin Templeton never send me a 1099-DIV form. Supposedly because the interest is so little they're not obligated to do it. Though I thought reinvestment still count.

Why is this poor planning?

It depends on the flight, layovers, weather, time of the year, etc. My first time having a layover in Denver I didn't think much about the weather and unfortunately my flight was delayed due to a storm. I was kicking myself for not paying a little more and taking a straight flight to my destination.

The airliner can only do so much to try and get passengers to their destination on time. Some delays are beyond their control so sometimes some burden might be on the passenger to account for that.

I think it is no different from driving to an important event. If the GPS suggest it'll take one hour you shouldn't necessarily leave one hour away. There's still the time to find parking or walk over and worse case scenario an accident that no one expected. Certain events are beyond our control so depending on the importance of the destination, a buffer is sometime needed.

In this particular case with giving up your seat, I think yielding to the request of the airlines will only further enforce their belief that they can continue this practice. Yielding would be the "coward" approach in my opinion because you're not standing up against an improper practice. You're just letting the system push you around. If all the passengers united and refuse to allow anyone to leave despite the delayed flight, of course this will never happen, more than likely that will light a fire under the airline arse.

That's my beef with this though. Just because the statistics suggest it'll work out doesn't mean it is a practice that should be done. Hell, some passengers don't buy insurances for cancelling their flights so the airline is more than likely to still get their money from the passenger who isn't flying.

That's not her obligation. If the host agreed to a price then it's a contract unless it was agreed to under false pretenses.

Yer got a point there. Though honestly I am not sure how Airbnb hosts can enforce their guest limitation rules. Suh could very well have said nothing to Tami and the host would be none the wiser. When I booked a house via Airbnb in Las Vegas, the host was actually in Las Vegas so could check up on us.

My friends and I have booked two beds rooms before despite there being 5-6 of us. We just share the beds and sleep on the floor. I think in most cases motels/hotels will not allow that and if caught we might be forced out or forced to book another room.

Your average traveler might not plan for extra days when traveling for fun or for business. If a storm is causing a delay for all flights and might result in folks missing out on a day of vacation or a business meeting that's beyond anyone's control.

But if the airline is asking folks to waste away some of their vacation time or potentially miss a business meeting that is something they shouldn't and can't be asking. Not apple and oranges but I attended a conference once and due to a storm at my layover location my flight was delayed. If I had accepted the next free flight I would have miss out on the entire reason I was attending the conference. I was trying to minimize cost so didn't book to arrive a day early.

It is unlikely everyone on a flight is in a situation where they can't arrive late but sometimes even getting a free flight or free hotel room simply isn't good enough.

Zangulus posted...
he thought he was better than other people

That's the thing though. Why is him keeping to his schedule any less important than the other passengers? It's beyond stupid in my opinion to risk overbooking for the sake of maximizing profit. Of course in the end the airliners won't care. Losing some customers from overbooking will be made up from the profit in overbooking.

Like how does Airbnb work?

I've only used it once for a trip in Las Vegas. It is almost no different from reserving a motel/hotel room except there's no room service. You make a request to the host for X days and the host can choose to accept you or not. Most hosts have rules in-place (i.e. don't disturb the neighbors, no parties, etc) and can put a limit on the number of guests. The house that we stayed at had no limit on guests whereas other houses that the host owned had a limit and would charge extra per guest. The nice thing about Airbnb was how much cheaper it was compared to the motel/hotels in Las Vegas during CES.
