Electronic hobbyist since I was a kid, building circuits to move dots of light around an oscilloscope screen as a teenager in the early 1960s, lots of other interests and activities but a "gamer" for 55+ years. More to life than video games, sure. Video games as an important part of life, definitely.

To each his own.

Oh yes. Definitely. I still play games and still look forward to purchasing new releases. I definitely have my nostalgic glasses on when playing old games. :)

What's changed for me, though, is the lack of time to indulge in games due to a job and life in general.

TopicWhat is your relationship with your father(s) like?
Alexandra_Trent
06/15/17 3:16:21 PM

Loving relationship.

I love my dad. In many aspects, he's my hero.

I suppose I say that because he's raised our family the best he could. We saw and understood his efforts; the hardships, the sacrifices he made to ensure we had a bright future, his devotion. Now that I'm older, I can better understand the choices he made and why he made them. He leads by example.

Growing up, we wanted for nothing. We were pampered, to the point of being spoiled. But even so, my parents always ensured that we knew and understood the amount of sacrifice he had to do to provide us the things that we had. He always wanted us to have things and opportunities that he never had.

Humility is a virtue that he spoke of very often and looking back at it now, his choices in life always revolved in that principle.

He was a stern and strict father in some ways; studies, curfews, dating, the notion of respect especially at home. But at the same time, he is our best friend. He likes video games and indulges in them. He tells lame jokes that only we understand. And we can confide in him. He's my go-to person (along with my mum) whenever I have a bad day. I don't hesitate to ask for advice when I feel confused or lost. I don't feel embarrassed in sharing my insecurities either.

One thing about my father that I don't see in many fathers is that my dad prefers we do things together as a family; movie nights, picnics, fine dining, vacations etc. While growing up, we always shared meals together. We waited for everyone to be seated and no one ate until the family is complete. It's a value that he instilled in us from a young age; family is everything.

My father is a classical and traditional kind of man. He still believes in chivalry. Believes in the institution of marriage. He's a devout Catholic. But at the same time, he's a modern man as well. He always supported my dreams and encouraged female empowerment. He always said: Be assertive but not aggressive. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

I suppose the gist is that my dad raised us with the fundamentals that life is black and white; simple. But he also told us as we grew up that the world is in fact, grey. And that we'd cross that bridge when we got there, together. He said that figuring out the grey parts is what life is all about.

I love my dad! Hehe! We're going to treat him for a weekend getaway for Father's Day. :)))

TopicOk, so here my 2 main complaints about FF13 Lightning Returns so far.
Alexandra_Trent

I agree on all counts.

1. The timing thing was plainly vexing. I understand that you get used to it down the line and the game really does give you ample time to complete missions and quests however the mental anxiety of the idea of being timed is just.....annoying and stressful and it didnt go away for me. Personally I didn't come close to grappling for time but still...I disliked seeing that timer. DX

2. The plot was just....strange. It felt like they just made an excuse to extend FFXIII into a trilogy. It felt rushed and forced. Really unnecessary. FFXIII was fine and all (not great) and the ending was fine. FFXIII-2 was nice but again unnecessary.

Aaaand yes. No male fanservice. Hahaha! What a shame. Too much of skimpy Lightning running around. And her body type is like..........banana type. No hips and not a very defined waistline and modest chest. Meh.

I got no gun experience myself, but I thought that the first thing you do with a gun is to check if it is loaded or not, and dont show it around if it is loaded.

If he's experienced with them then.........

Flushing at urinals is optional

I agree with this depending on the urinal - MOST of them, in my experience, the urine will just drip through the urinal cakes and down the train, with no real need to flush. But if it's one of those urinals that still has a little pool of water with each use, then yeah I'd still flush those.

Sure it's optional.

But why do we need to discuss that anyway? Does flushing require a great deal of effort and mental/emotional deliberation?

It's basically just the principle. When one uses a public urinal, the polite thing to do would to be to ensure that you leave it clean for the next person to use. It's basically being considerate of others and not just thinking of oneself.
