What's the better DQ to start with? VIII for 3DS or XI-S for PS4?

I say VIII because it will be hard to go back to the other Dragon Quest games after XI

Most memorable part of the game is the amazing intro that is so ahead of its time. Plot then proceeds to be a super generic JRPG plot.

The only thing this has me glad is because it pushed Xenoblade 3's release date early.

Not big on Metroid stories but Dread was easily the most memorable one and had some amazing moments.

I really couldn't get into this but it may be that I was completely done or burnt out with Pokemon after Sword/Shield ended up being such a mediocre lazily put together experience. I may be in the same boat as TC as in the first few hours were intriguing but once the novelty wore off the gameplay loop didn't make me want to keep playing the game.

Another strange reason could be that Pokemon Scarlet/Violet got announced soon after and after playing this game for a couple of hours, I suddenly have renewed hope in a Pokemon game on console being done right and it felt like I was playing a beta for a game that is yet to come, which is also clearly a bigger deal than Legends Arceus.

I might come back to Legends Arceus if Scarlet/Violet ends up sucking like Sword/Shield for my Pokemon kick but otherwise I'm saving whatever energy of tolerance for the series I have for the mainline game.

The main story is intriguing throughout and the choices you make feel like there is a lot of weight to it. Brain dance is one of the coolest gameplay/story mechanic and I throughly enjoyed the character interactions. However I do feel like Johnny Silverhand is half baked and kinda comes off as a one dimensional character when I was hoping for an all time iconic one considering he was being portrayed by Keanu fucking Reeves.

Overall a good story but I wouldn't call it something that would stick with you for the ages.

Elden Ring without Summon Spirits

Not an elitist post or shunning people using summons. I just had a ton of fun playing Elden Ring like the way I did the entire series. It was a brutally hard experience though and the hardest in the series without a doubt.

Voice acting and narration was top notch for its time and although I found Blood Omen to have the more intriguing story, this one holds up well on its own.

The 5 or so hours I've played of this was not good. It felt like bad fan fiction and despite being a big Persona fan, none of the aspects of the game clicked with me. I would have given this a 2 for story but I have only played the beginning part.

I think it's because it finishes well behind FF8 and 9 in the favorite FF game polls. What people don't realize is that FF8 and 9 are Top 30 games, contest strength wise on this site.

This isn't a plea for LS to accept my overall rating of FFXIV, I was just giving my take on the game.

To be fair, I never said I disliked the game. It was alright. The story was also ok but not great. It was just all really exhausting and a kind of a chore to play. Also I'm finding out that I'm really not into MMOs (despite putting over a 1000 hours into WoW back then) because of the way they work. If they streamline things and release an offline version of the expansions in the future, then I certainly will give them a shot. Or maybe I'll just YouTube them but I really have no motivation to do so right now.

This all might stem from the fact that the only reason why I even gave ARR a shot in the first place was because I heard really good things about the story but that fell way short of all my expectations and I have no desire to do so with the expansions. That was my FFXIV experience.

FF1 and FF4 benefit a lot from series proxy votes. They are both respected classic FF titles without the polarizing fanbase that the modern entries past FF10 have. Which is why they manage to look fantastic in muti-way polls like these. I doubt it would do this well against RE4 and Persona 4 in a one on one contest setting.

I'm fine with whatever Lightning Strikes decides, no big deal. I have only seen through ARR and haven't had the desire to play the expansions and I have rated many games in these topics without haven't played all their expansions.

My policy is that I will seek out expansions only for games that I really end up falling in love with and FFXIV ARR was definitely not one of them.

Looking however at the contrasting scores between ARR and the rest of the expansions, this may be a special case.

Forgotten One in Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

Hell of an underrated game. I wouldn't necessarily call that particular fight great but since that is the only one that is eligible for this topic, I'd like to say it is good to see some love for either of the two PS2 3D Castlevania games.

And just to pitch my own experience with the game. I have played over 200 hours, and done 5 playthroughs with different builds. Never have I ever felt anything resembling fatigue. Infact I already miss the Lands Between now that I have finally moved on to another game. So length and size is definitely not an issue with the game.

And if anyone has compulsive disorders of any sort, open-world games may not be the best idea for your health. Especially not an open-world that doesn't hand hold in the slightest. I say this with respect.

I got you mixed up with that other guy who said he had the same issue and went on to add that the game should have been released in episodic format. Probably the most idiotic post I have ever seen on this board.

Some of the pet peeves over here is beyond ridiculous. Hey I played 140 hours and burnt myself out because I forced myself do stuff I don't like in an open-world game, so game should have been episodic. Lol.

And then there is stuff like people calling Atlus Plateau and Mountaintop of the Giants a dip in quality when we literally got Leyndell, Volcano Manor, Mohgwyn Palace, Haligtree and Farum Azula in those areas.

FromSoftware manages to create an unfathomable masterpiece of a game in both scope and quality and people still find ways to shit on it.

Don't even get me started on the people bitching about the difficulty and calling Summon Spirits necessary. Jesus Christ.
