If you remove Charizard's pushing then you have to remove the pushing that every other Pokemon has received, and in a world where legendaries aren't given movies and Pikachu is just a rare electric Pokemon in Viridian forest, Charizard would absolutely be Top 10, at least among older fans who grew up with him. Like, what is so difficult to understand about a starter fire dragon resonating with young kids?
I think if you swap the Charizard line with, like, Salamence, it probably does not end up top 10. Being a starter (and on the cover of the game, no less) is the biggest push there is.

Really hard to say when we're dealing in counterfactuals like this though.

Full student debt cancellation is regressive (the average dollar of student debt is owned by a richer-than-average American), inflationary, and sets up really perverse incentives if costs aren't simultaneously addressed. It really doesn't make much sense to do it, especially now (and debtors have already had a pretty sizable amount of their debt eaten away by the interest freeze/inflation).
Okay but consider this:

I agree that it was potentially bad optics to start off by saying "I'm going to nominate a black woman" -- but also, these people think it's "forced diversity" when a black person is in a commercial for Cheerios or whatever. You can't win that game and I sort of appreciate that Biden's not even bothering to play it.

This set is one of the best examples of the degradation of Pokemon's overall art style. Every subsequent Pokemon looks less like a fantastical living creature and more like a weird cartoon character. Early designs incorporate body proportions that make sense, and they look way better for it.
I've felt this way about a lot of other days but I actually don't think it's particularly true of this group. Blaziken onward they're all just weird people, so the body proportions aren't as out of place, or at least it's not as apparent that they are. Also Typhlosion is kind of just a Dorito, but I think that's this specific art's fault and not an innate design issue.

Maybe it's because I don't buy many processed foods, but I haven't really noticed the quality going down. Definitely have noticed it for ice cream, though, and I've definitely noticed the price going up a lot even compared to a few years ago. Beer is my go-to example for the latter. It's so hard to find decent beer for a buck a bottle anymore, even on sale, when that used to be on the lower end of standard non-sale price!

I don't necessarily look for shorter games, but they're definitely the ones I'm more likely to actually play after buying lol

More so than just total playtime, I prefer games that are easy to pick up and put down. There's no faster way to make me not want to play a game than to put hours between opportunities to save, for instance.

I had a solid 6 or so years in my 20s where I really only played multiplayer games, otherwise I think I might break 600

To put it charitably, this game's plot is extremely goofy. Even by Xenosaga standards it barely makes sense, it ties up hanging plot threads in very uninteresting ways (while still ignoring a lot of them), and a lot of the new stuff it introduces is just. Completely stupid.

It also has a lot of character anti-development, with Shion just being completely irredeemable as the most obvious example.

I agree with Leon that the ending is awful.

3/10, definitely the trilogy's low point story-wise.

dammit they don't remove from the overall pile of softwares because you can just make multiple groups that have the same stuff, which sure is nice but I like folders for the purpose of segmenting my stuff down to specific groups

like Steam has folders in a way you can put some things into multiple buckets but it has an overall "unsorted" folder and games get removed from that list as you categorize them into other folders - that's basically what I'd like because I hate this big unsorted heap goddammit i want to trim it down into something tidy
Yeah it's pretty disappointing that it doesn't work this way. Right now it's basically a tag system visualized as folders, which is useful in its own way but doesn't help with the clutter.

Portal, kinda. I don't mind the puzzles at all but they aren't the draw.

Contact (DS) is probably a purer example, that game's gameplay is mediocre at best but I love the writing and almost everything else about it.

Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (Wii) is a gorgeous game in almost all respects, but the combat is pretty clunky and unfun.

...I skimmed through a list of all the games I've beaten and those are the only 3 that stand out to me. Usually I don't like games with bad gameplay!

My opinion of this one has only improved over time from playing more FEs and other RPGs. It avoids a lot of the standard clichs of the series and genre because it's about a bunch of shadow conflicts instead of outright war or direct confrontation with the major villains. Definitely the least "generic FE story" of the whole series. It's kind of creepy and dark and is simultaneously the FE with some of the fewest fantasy elements and also some of the most major ones. It also does a great job telling the same story from two perspectives and keeping it interesting despite following the same events. It's a big balancing act and I think it works.
