It would be possible if people hadn't been taking the "jokes" of comedians as gospel political, social, and cultural truth, ever since Carlin at least.

In any topic about comedians and whatever stupid point they make you'll see at least 40 percent of the people saying they tell the truth.

One of the biggest arguments for the cultural importance of comedy is that they speak truth to power and address uncomfortable subjects in a way that's more palatable.

You can't say that and then also say "iz only jokes, why you heff to be mad" when people pick up on the implications of what you're saying.

Just treat your partner well in the ways that actually matter, like in terms of emotional support and communication. This hyper traditional focus on public signifiers of chivalry is dumb.

Many of the people who do this the "right" way probably also treat their partners like trash because of the other traditional stuff they've learned.

There's never been a time when it hasn't been. There's been lots of times where a higher percentage lived in misery, though maybe not as many in terms of absolute numbers due to the way higher population we have now.

All the info he'd get from talking to them is already out there and readily available. Most comedians manage not to do the stuff he does. I found out how to not be transphobic without needing trans people to personally explain the concept to me.

How does he win the favor of people that won't even talk to him. He extended the olive branch after the backlash from Netflix, people don't want to build bridges they just want enemies. How do you build bridges with someone that is perpetuating harmful stereotypes as you're having rights taken away and thinks they're doing nothing wrong?

Neoliberalism doesn't exactly excite or inspire anyone. To sell it, you need once in a generation political charisma like Bill and Obama had. It's pretty hard to be a young person and create a grassroots campaign around vouchers and tax credits. That's why neoliberals insist so heavily that it's the only way and that anything else is impossible or would be catastrophic.

There's no reason to support the young neoliberals over the old ones who can at least get elected and implement it, and the young socialists are treated as delinquent, redheaded step children to be shut in the cupboard by many Democrats.

That's why there's a bunch of AOCs and a bunch of Bidens, but nothing inbetween that bridges the gap. The Democratic party has been really bad at conveying its grassroots into power, it actively hates and fears them. Meanwhile, the grassroots have been running the Republicans since at least the 90s.

Younger people are easy to paint as radical. Youth is equated to unseriousness, which is equated to unelectablility, which is equated to progressivism and being scary.

It doesn't help that younger people who run for office on the left are often significantly to the left of current Dems because they're running because they see that the system is utterly broken.

Then the young people the party does endorse are little offshoots of the corporate Dems already in office, ie the Buttigieg types. But young people regard them as inauthentic and unrepresentative.

It's gonna have to be a hostile takeover because older people with calcified thinking are not going to save us. There's a reason that the revolutionaries that established this country were all in their 20s and 30s.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: each and every gig economy/app disruptor is a bait and switch and a method of bypassing laws that benefit the public. They start with low prices to capture market share and build brand loyalty, and then they unleash social chaos, destroy markets and neighborhoods, and enrich a select few in the process.

Many people haven't seen it yet since we're only about a decade in, but eventually it will be common sentiment that these things all have a lot of negative effects on society.

The part is simply concentrated and weaponized grievance and self centeredness. They think there's a very specific type of American and lifestyle that knows best and should be able to determine what everyone else is allowed to do, on pain of death. Meanwhile, they can essentially do whatever they want.

The law exists to bind but not protect women, minorities, LGBT people, immigrants etc, and it exists to protect but not bind men, conservative Christians, white people, and capital.

My verdict on this show is that other than the first two and the final episodes, the show was actually bogged down by the superhero stuff. If it was just an immigrant story, I probably wouldn't have watched it, but it would have been a better show most likely.

The scenes involving Kamala with her friends and parents were consistently the best, the stuff with everything else was very uneven.

This is part of what scares me about it. It's ensaring the people who realize there's something wrong with capitalism, that the system is rigged and they don't have the chance they were told to get ahead by working hard. But instead of getting them to fight for workers rights or a more democratic system, it lures them into a hypercapitalist gambling trap. It's literally a worse version of the system that's already screwing them, but they think they're fighting the system by playing hot potato with fake assets as a few whales soak up almost all the actual profit.

And when they realize they were duped, these people are going to be MAD. They're gonna be impoverished. They'll be disillusioned. They'll be humiliated. We talked about this at work, an absolutely wild case. Christo fascists realized a few years ago that they couldn't get anywhere by calling other religions and sexualities/gender identities demon spawn in courts or in public opinion. It was too hateful and mask off.

So now they argue to repeal basic civil rights and constitutional protections with the strongest sword available "religious rights"

Now they can make blatantly bigoted arguments and win because not letting them discriminate is anti religion now.
