that's a pretty good example - Aside from a few critical items (like the armors in MMBN 1 or the Codes in MMBN 3) you rely entirely on equipment

For example, in the Zelda games you do grow as you finish levels, if you count them as RPGs, but I'm more looking for something where aside from a few high value/critical items your character doesn't particularly "grow" during the course of the game

that's a good description of Contra 3 - it's a game you can plug in and FINISH in one go pretty much every time.

I'd open it up to see if the battery is becoming a spicy pillow. A few years ago it was easy enough to get replacement parts, idk how it is with current supply chain issues though. It isn't too hard to replace the battery, the touchscreen is a little harder but still doable.

It's probably cheaper (and easier) to go over the the Hock Shop and pick one up for $100 and then do a system transfer before it has a complete meltdown.

I could do that, it is a special edition monster hunter new 3ds though and I have my Ambassador credentials on it which are entirely irreplaceable these days

A small bubble is forming under the screen, likely due to heat since it's been running hotter than usual...

More importantly, the functionality has been compromised because the 3DS interprets this air bubble (or whatever it is) as rapidly tapping that location... making using anything with a function in the same location as the bubble (almost everything) very imporstible

I have a weird Contra 3 story

I bought the game early and played it a lot with my bro - we got really good at it, like zero death very hard speedruns kinda good... but because of this I got bored

So, as a tiny kid where people would trade carts with each other all the time - I wanted to do a permatrade; A kid in my class had Mario Paint which would have been a pretty big upgrade to get.

But they cancelled... yet due to my brain problem I was obsessed with the original plan and ended up perma trading Contra 3 for... ... ... Joe and Mac

Joe and Mac was also great co-op fun, but my bro always disliked that I traded Contra 3 for it.

Then 10 years later I fried Joe and Mac by putting it on a Gameshark and then into an N64... I thought it might work :/

I heard it's going to be the Street Fighter equivalent of Smash Bros... since SNK is on board

yeah ff9 and chrono cross loadtimes were crazy long, they might remake ff9 seeing as they have a t.v. show

the steam version of 8 and 9 have up to 4x speed processing which make both a lot better to play though

many late stage Japanese NES games also had custom sound chips but I can only think of Castlevania 3 as an example

To be fair, I just plain don't get the concept of high-level math research. I know there are use cases for some of it (especially in computer science), but so much of the research is just so ridiculously theoretical and seems to boil down to "let's solve this super complicated puzzle and maybe somebody will be able to do something with the solution someday." It's weird.

And entire branch of physics math was invented to help people cheat at Mario 64
