Its his title at the end of FE4:

In the annals of Thracian history, the name of King Leif the Wise, the "Sage-Lord," will echo for eternity..."

Pretty obscure.

Alear gets way better at promotion, if only because they now get 5 move instead of 4.
Oh lol, I don't remember that ending at all but I retract my criticism, that's a cool callback

it hurts my soul that almost everyone has 4 move right now. definitely makes me long for the games where even infantry had 6 move standard

Oh I like Morion and Saphir. This probably means neither is playable and at least one will die but for now I like them. Amber is super cute but unfortunately I don't like him at all so to the bench he goes.

Why is Leif the Sage Lord? he's not even a sage

Chapter 8 was good but it really feels like it should've been a defend chapter. I mean it kind of was but making it defeat boss means they can't lay on as much pressure as if it was defend for X turns.

Alfred was my first promotion. Emblem Sigurd is insanely good and on Alfred it feels almost unfair. On the other hand Alear+Marth are kinda falling behind even at level 10 bond. Thus are the perils of sword infantry I guess. Diamant likely gonna get benched for the same reason.

Probably gonna do the second paralogue before heading to chapter 9.

why is lapis red and pink instead of blue. what a weird decision.

Nelucce is a great boss. I love the FE trope of "minor slimebag antagonist who is incredibly (and 100% unjustifiably) smug and confident in his own abilities".

I'm not quite sure why he escaped only to die three minutes later in a cutscene but whatever.

Not at all impressed with the seemingly more major antagonists so far but it's still early.

There is a reason some history boards limit topics to more than 20 years ago. Politics isnt history. No college US history class is going to spend any significant time discussing anything that happening in that recent time frame (unless as a reference to a prior event)
Eh, it really depends on the class. While survey-level college history courses don't go as hard on recent stuff as high schools are apt to, in my experience they still touch on it, and you can find more specialized courses that might be entirely about, say, the 1990s.

I think a lot of people see the political battle over social issues as a smokescreen designed to obscure and distract from a bipartisan consensus on capitalism. Which is not really unbelievable and if you only care about economic issues then it makes sense you'd see the parties as similar if not identical. But like, those social issues still affect hundreds of millions of Americans, so. Even if you think the parties are the same and that social issues are manufactured, you kinda have to reckon with the human cost at some point. Or become a tankie, I guess.

PowerSlave Exhumed (Steam)

I've been wanting to play this game since, gosh, maybe 12-15 years ago when I first learned about it? It's an FPS sort-of-metroidvania from the era before Metroid Prime. I guess this new version sort of combines the existing PS1 and Saturn versions.

It's a decent shooter. There's not a whole lot of Metroidvania-ness to it but I definitely see the comparisons, and the movement abilities are very fun. Moving around in this game just feels good. The shooting, a little less so but it's fine. The less said about the game's story/aesthetic the better. I collected all the major collectables but didn't get the 31 staff easter eggs.

Right but if the point is the puzzles there are lots of picross games that are just puzzles. Clearly the story is supposed to be part of the draw or it wouldn't be there at all. It's kinda the same issue I had with PictoQuest, where it's a picross RPG but the whole RPG part is completely half-baked. It just makes you wonder why they even bothered.

I actually thought the pacing was fine! I just want the game's mysteries to not be immediately obvious within the first 5 minutes of a 4 hour long case.

Murder by Numbers (Switch)

Man, the first couple hours of this had me saying "this game was made to appeal to me specifically. this is the best game ever made." And the picross part of it stays really good throughout, though I could have done with some harder puzzles (the toughest puzzle in the main story is 20x15 and there's only one of those).

But geez, I have some issues with this game's writing. The characters are written pretty well but the game can't make a working plot to save its life. The game never makes me feel like the main character is qualified to be a detective, and the game's explanation for why she's good at it is that it's in her genetics(???). And her general incompetence gets two people killed so she actually ends the game significantly less likeable than at the start. The whodunnits/howdunnits aren't great either; I don't expect Ace Attorney level but a random episode of Detective Conan blows this stuff out of the water. (Also it's pretty bad copaganda and the characters constantly complain about how due process/defense attorneys/civil rights/etc make it just so difficult to get the bad guys.)

The kicker is that there's a missable puzzle in case 3 and you need to play every puzzle in the game to unlock some extra scenes, and if you miss it you have to replay the entire case and every puzzle in it again. Stupid!
